Title: jimmy saville
Post by: cranium on October 12, 2012, 00:38:11 AM
Not seen a post about the recent affairs (and yes theres alot of them not just this one)...concerning jimmy saville

been following it to some degree. and also seen in the papers now that they have dismantled his tomb stone and destroyed it. to me it just seems like a micheal jackson casr. the only difference is micheal had to go through all the stuff when he was alive. where as jimmy saville had all this come up after his death. just thoight it would be intresting to see peoples views on this.

It's a kangaroo court fuelled by media hype and opportunists looking for a fleeting bit of fame and money off the back of it for the most part. The number of people claiming to have heard/seen/been involved in covering it all up is staggering and now makes it sound like the guy was touring the country and abusing young girls left right and centre without question or cumuppence. The number of people coming out of the woodwork to claim he groped them is probably directly proportional to how much money the papers will offer or in the case of those in the media how much of their career they want to salvage by not appearing to be an enabler - "It's okay, I've done my part now by coming forward" - I don't buy into it all frankly. If you wanted justice you should have come forward sooner when it actually mattered and he could have been brought to justice.

Someone being a bit oddball is not reason enough to dismiss the need for hard evidence and while I'm not a massive fan of him by any means, I personally think judgement should be reserved and that these are simply allegations and that's all they ever will be. The number of claims is ludicrous and drowning out any plausible ones, let's not forget his porter job also took him to the morgue where he could have sex with corpses and his charitable work for Battersea Dogs Home where he had unrestricted access to a variety of dogs...

But if the allegations were indeed true, he has gotten away with it still because he will have died thinking he was a living legend thanks to those frankly too cowardly or self-serving to come forward. If the likes of Esther Rantzen et al really knew, it makes them just as bad as him for allowing it to continue.Justice would have been served by having his reputation ruined following a proper investigation and trial. Remember Gary Glitter?

It is actually scary to think that the media is now in charge of determining guilt by reporting baseless accusations as fact, rather than judicial trial.

Jimmy Saville's family have removed the gravestone and plants from his grave. This just leaves a small hole with no bush...its what he would have wanted.

what nige said...

the worst bit is, lets say he did do something wrong to some young girls... there's that many of them coming out of the woodwork now that no-one is going to take any of them too seriously...

also... who's going to cover things up to protect someone who's abusing kids ?  - if he was a drunk/druggy or even a wife beater I could understand how people could look the other way... but it wouldn't matter who it was, if I caught someone abusing a kid I'd be shouting it from the roof tops as soon as I'd finished jumping up and down on there head

also... I get that a lot of people who were abused as kids don't tell anyone for years, and then after the abuser is dead they feel differently about it and finally talk about it....

but now we're supposed to believe that all these girls he's supposed to have abused were like that ? not a single one mentioned it to her parents ?  - it would only have taken one telling her parents about it for it to get out into the world...

I put a lot of it down to the facebook generation... moronic drama queens... OMG I sat on his knee once.... i was abused !!!

having said all that... tha5t's more pointed at the media etc... because if he did abuse even one young girl, then I wish he was still alive to face up to the consequences of that

I read earlier a number of the people that have suddenly spoken up are actively seeking compensation from the BBC, make of that what you will.

I won't claim to know everything there is to know about this case, I've stayed away from the papers recently because there's too much repetitiveness of not a lot. We have however been using this as examples of reporting in our lectures this week and I personally agree with the majority - it's just either fame hungry or money grabbing people wanting to jump on the bandwagon. Yes, Jimmy Saville could have abused young girls, but being a famous man, these girls/women would have made a lot more money from their story whilst he was alive. If so many adults knew about it then they are to blame too, for not thinking it appropriate to mention anything.

I also read that the BBC were to air a programme on this case months ago but it was suddenly scrapped at the last minute. The majority are speculating it's because the BBC didn't want the severity of it to be known, but it could just be a case of there wasn't enough evidence to validate that the programme should be aired. The head of BBC South visited our uni this week and told us that happens quite frequently.

This just reminds me of the woman claiming to be his 'love child' and demanded his family supply DNA to prove it, and when the results came back negative blamed it on them not giving enough recent samples.

I thought the reason no one had come forward or made it all public, is that the ones that did or were going to, were threatened by Saville in the sense that he would cut the millions of £ he sent to different charitable causes if it was made known. No one wanted to cause that. Now he's dead, that can't/won't happen?

I think the major concern for the BBC is that abuse of some kind was an open secret within the corporation. Tales of people being told but not acting upon it or newsnight shelving an investigation into him have all been linked together to make out quite a bit in the papers.

The stunning number of people to come forward is disturbing too for many reasons which have all been covered in the posts above. Yet again this shows why the majority of the printed media is almost essential to ignore.

It wouldn't surprise me if he had been abusing young people but until proven otherwise he is innocent.

The media circus is of course a joke, and certainly some of the claims are purely the band wagon effect. However I think he has done it to some - purely on the basis of the audio recordings of him with young girls. Innocent or not his behaviour on the tapes is just wrong and clearly inappropriate. He obviously didn't understand the boundaries between adults and children. It's not proof without which I agree he can't be found guilty, but I genuinely believe its true. In regards to people not coming forward earlier - you can't judge or even begin to understand if you've never been through it, especially in light of what appears to have been a large hush culture in an era very different to today. I'd actually suggest if there are multiple people who've all kept quiet then there's likely been a powerful reason that they've all done so.

Whilst I can understand people not coming forward for one reason or another, what I cannot accept so easily is the thought that there are genuine apologists and enablers for Saville's actions if they actually saw these events take place or even heard 1st hand from someone allegedly abused. It's totally unimaginable to think that there are people out there that would rather save face/save their career than shout from the rooftops as knighty put it about the molestation and abuse of young girls.

Most of the conjecture seems to stem around girls of around roughly legal age and in come cases seemingly willing joining him in his special room/alcove who seem to now be wanting to jump on the bandwagon for whatever reason and state they've thought about it a bit since then and think it was abuse, yet this is a very far cry from the man apparently roaming the country commiting blatant and gross acts of paedophilia - with much younger girls - in schools and hospitals without anyone of any degree of authority mentioning it. It's become too implausible thanks to the media circus.

Again, I'm not saying I think he's innocent and a gem of a man, etc but still there is a real need for this widespread media assault to be considered gossip and not fact or we set a strong precedent and slippery slope for anyone in the public light being wrongly vilified the same way Michael Jackson was :-X

I watched HIGNYF last night expecting at least some degree of neutrality and objection towards the media, they simply glossed over it all as though he was now for sure a confirmed paedophile and they/the BBC had nothing really to do with it and made a few crass jokes. I'm sure they were probably 'coached' beforehand on how to treat the subject to be fiar to Hislop/Merton.

Seems he had wandering hands...

http://www.channel4.com/news/jimmy-savile-audio-emerges-of-unpleasant-encounter

I don't think you'd get lots of independent witnesses emerging just for the hell of it, the guy probably was a bit of a perv and seemingly did grope/abuse underage girls. Given the culture of the 70s etc... its not that surprising that they didn't come forward at the time.

dont forget, late 60s, 70s & early 80s was quite different back then than now. saville was prob bigger than almost any pop star or TV icon. he was a god in bbc eyes - the man was the first DJ! The rumours have been around for years - just not the depth it seems to be at.

SAVILE  :tinhat:

Looks like the good old licence-payer's going to be pumped good and proper ££££££££££££.

I sincerely hope the BBC goes under over this. Their politcal/cultural bias is appalling...

Eagle, your bias is showing... BBC has no reason to pay out as the crimes were not pushed while he was alive.

The fact is he was known for it, the problem was nobody believed that 'Jim'll fix it' would do that sort of thing?

It's like finding out your local Roman Catholic priest has been fiddling with young boys. Now who would believe one of those would do that!  :dunno:

Come on... you have to be blind not to see the BBC is run and manned by Leftards?

Anyway, 200+ victims?  Yeah, pull the other one.  Bandwagonism.

They should have pushed it while he was still around because they won't get a penny of our money in compensation.  Oh wait...
