Title: Man in Box
Post by: skidzilla on February 26, 2010, 08:18:34 AM
Who the heck would stick themselves in a box only slighter bigger than a coffin for thirty days, completely alone? :wtf: This guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Shaw_%28presenter%29):

QuoteMan In Box is not another product of a huge corporation. It was merely a good idea which a few close friends came up with over a couple back in 2004. An idea which we were all determined to see through.

It is not about making money. It is an experiment that links solitary confinement with social networking. Observing how a human being behaves for a period of a month in a world of total isolation. One way traffic. You can see and hear his every move, however no one can communicate with him. He is locked inside a steel box which measures 3 feet high, 4.5 feet wide and 8 feet long. The only daily highlight is a delivery of basic food and water through a tiny double-skinned hatch.

You have 30 days and 30 nights to find him. Knowing only that his location is of personal significance (a place he has been before at some stage over the last 35 years) watch him as he attempts to recall as many events as he can. As you build up a picture of his life you can send guesses of his location through the map facility on a uniquely designed Google Maps application. If your co-ordinates are correct, you receive 30 thousand pounds cash, the door lights turn green and he is released.
£30,000 prize for whoever finds him too.

Sounds like a slightly easier version of that wired challenge where they sent one of their writers out to go off the grid and let the internet try to find him. If I remember correctly he made it about a month or so and then started to get so bored he deliberately made it easier.

That challenge could be very easy or very hard depending on what the, er, man in the box says...

love how they are spinning a blatant internet-fad-money making attempt as "an experiment that links solitary confinement with social networking"

someone should write a scrip to spam the f**k out of that google maps application with every co-ordinate possible.
