Dave

Problem is that simple actually - if the population didn't want to remain part of the UK then they could simply declare independence and/or join Argentina - its not like it hasn't happened many times before with other colonies/territories throughout the 20th century.

Even if we wanted to hang onto them it would be politically unfeasible both internationally and domestically - not going to happen. Then again - the islanders deciding they don't want to be British isn't really on the cards anyway so its a mute point.

knighty

it doesn't matter that we sank there ship first, (the belangeroo ? or something like that)

or that we 'won'

whenever anyone in the UK thinks of the Falkland's.... they think about the war... and straight away think about them sinking the Sheffield, and the crew who were killed/injured (especially the guy who's face was burnt off)

and for that reason alone.... we'll never let them have the Falklands no matter what.
