had enough of mine & Field support work in general
I dont want to work in a stuffy office, wearing suits & ties, being bored by people whos
only friends work in the same office.
So what can I do? would love to get into satcomms or asterisk, but opportunities are pretty much limited...
Electrician, Plasterer, etc. - been looking into that, but the training is a tad expensive & also a bit confusing
about qualifications, etc.
To much commitments to say f**k it & do working travel.

But on a serious note, what do you WANT to do, other than what you mentioned above? Must be something else that is practical? Ive only just decided that when my contract runs out in Nov I want to do a masters in ecology overseas.

i have as much idea now as I did when I was in school.
I just fell into IT as it was my hobby.
What about working for a smaller IT support company? Thats what Ive been doing for the past couple of years and its pretty kushty, easy work mostly and you can play with stuff like asterisk or whatever cos its something you can sell.

Is it not true that the totally easy chushy jobs are the ones your going to get mind numbingly bored in?
A good job is one that is challenging but one you enjoy doing.
I also do not get the full suit office thing sometimes.
If your an IT guy, or support guy etc and your not being seen by clients etc why do some companies make you wear suits? You do not feel comfortable and just one of those elements that result in not feeling happy in your job.
I wear what I like at work, we all do and if there are meetings that is the time to be reasonably presented.
I like the job being cushy, I just dont like the way the company I work for has evolved in the last 6 months..
my work is varied & easy + I rarely get home later than 5pm - usually making my way home by 4pm
A year ago, If someone said they was leaving, they would ask why & what they could do to persuade you to stay,
now they dont care & make no attempt.
Im losing my company car, thats to be replaced with a van & theres a lot of other reasons... but that is the main reason
I am leaving this company, but I dont want to fall into another IT role.. there has to be somthing different.
Nothing wrong with the work I do - it can be boring, but usually I have my laptop & 3g dongle with me for anything that takes
longer than 20minutes.
I have no interest in working in an office.
1) I dont like business dress
2) I dont want to be in front of a computer 7hours a day
3) the majority of people who work in office whole life is the office.
I want to get out of supporting computers... I need to move forward, rather than being happy enough more
than enough to pay all my bills & outgoings & enough left over to drunk several times a month.
I have been trying (with no success) to get an IT support job on a cruise ship.. working 24/7 for 6 months for £25k appeals to me
- afterall, how can you spend £26k on a cruise ship?

crap pay but then again youre not going to be spending it on rent/mortgage so not that bad....
flatmate dances on cruise ships - it seems that if youre a) British or Italian and b) an officer or anything to do with the productions (technical, lighting etc..) then you have reasonable odds of dating one of the cast as all the guys in the productions bat for the other side....

pay is $6k a month - its not crap when you consider you dont pay rent or for food & have little chance to spend it on anything else.
Here you go man, pay isnt amazing, but itd look sweet on a CV!
Im so tempted to apply, but I wouldnt get it, and even if I did The Wife would chop my bollocks off!

I suspect most liner companies want people who will stay at least several years. There isnt that much to do except work, eat, sleep.
As for money, spend a night in the on board casino and your years earnings can end up as a negative figure.
I have attempted to look into the cruise jobs a few times but its very hard finding information that isnt from a paid website.
I really hate the job Im doing at the moment but pretty well paid and the last 3 months of work here will get me traveling for another 9 months if all goes to plan so its not a bad deal.
My next thing to try is teaching english in Asia, its more of a way to keep travelling but never know I might love it.
Some days I miss picking Bananas in pouring rain & boiling heat but then I kick myself and remember the pain.
Im sure if youre on a cruise ship youre still probably classed as UK domiciled.
Hell, they keep sending me tax returns and Ive not lived in the UK for nearly 3 years.
everything else aside egg..... Id get a new job before you quit the one I have... especially with so many people on the dole etc.. right now.... might be harder to get a job than you expect :o

dont look for cruise jobs in google.. look for cruise companies. most of them have a careers button somwhere to click on their home page.

Ive applied for quite a few & none are prepared to wait a month notice period when theres so many candidates.
Quite a few calls & as soon as I mention a months notice they tail off. Its going to be easier to get a job when I dont have a job.
^ Thats true, and the market is picking up - Ive had a whole bunch of calls this month about jobs.
