...as a mark of respect for what happened on september 11th 2001...
i dont know whether to laugh or cry at that...
a load of innocent people were killed by men who for one reason or another decided that their religous AND POLITICAL beliefs should take precedent over the lifes of non believers [and citizens] of a country they saw to be going against what they believed in.
what a rather sickly over the top thing to do, in the context of what happened that day...
typical britain though - the daily mail reading, hand wringing, professional mourners; as if the closing of a web forum will make any difference to anyone... and i am sure the victims alive and dead, really dont give a sh*t, that some website shut down for the day.
i am sympathetic to what happened and understand the gravity of it, but what a silly and mawkish thing to do.
note: that isnt mocking the dead, its saying sometimes people like to do the dramatic, "look at me" thing, when its not appropriate, 11/9/01 was a national tragedy, not a day for drama queens to have a good whinge and ball...
Thats pretty darn stupid tbh. I think a stickied thread asking people to remember the victims is alot more suitable really..
i personally would prefer to mourn in my own way. without the loss of something being rammed down my throat all day affecting how i work/life, because there is a greater cause.
when you change they way you live, and do things like that your letting the terrorists win tbh.
Not sure how shutting down a forum for a day is showing respect tbh.
It is not an excuse to get out of tings or justify a course of action in a country that was not directly affected by the attacks.
Very odd.
I shall not be going to the toilet today.....oh its a mark of repsect for the victims of 9/11 .....ffs.
Cheers
Tongy

Which i guess is what Marks doing, his forums, his way of mourning i guess?
I think hes more attatched to USA than most as he had lots of friends and contacts there.
Theres a first? sticking up for ocuk?
I saw it this morning, and its totally over the top. Whats wrong with creating a thread and anyone who has anything to say about 9/11 put it in there. What would those affected directly by 9/11 want, yes for it to be remembered but for people to get on with their lives normally, thats not whats happening there.
The admins over there seem a bit OTT at the best of times, they closed the general discussion forum for a few hours because they didnt like what topcis where being started. Not that they were inapporpriate, just because they didnt like things, its general discussion you can talk about anything thats the point.
Im afraid thats how ocuk has always been run, and you cant really judge them harshly as they have the most popular PC hardware forums in the uk and the busiest.
There motto is "if you dont like the way the forums are run, then dont use them" but thousands of people per day do and abide by the rules.
They have more posts per minute than there is here per day. Spie has always run it very harshly but he pays for it so he can basically do what he likes. The bandwidth used there is absolutely enormous.
Its not to say i agree with his practices, im just saying look where they have got them? Hes nothing but successful through and through it would seem.
Again this is very weird me sticking up for him, but hmmm ??
Anyone that has read some of the mods lounge extracts easily obtainable from various places wil know what a prize Spie is. I wouldnt put it past him as being a "look at how wonderful a person I am" stunt. Not that it has ever bothered me that much what they do mind, just dont get suckered in by them or their business - neither smell of roses.
Crazy !, The shop isnt, I wonder why ? Forums dont make money, the shop does.
I pretty much agree with what you guys are saying it does seem OTT and there really is no need for it, but at the end of the its up to the owner what he does I suppose.
Indeed Mr. Spi(t)e is free to do as he wishes with his forums, leave him be!
;)

LOL he has a racing team, so funds from the shop are vital.
If this had happened in any other country we wouldnt even batter an eye lid at it in the years following...
Its America, we all bitch about the country a LOT!
