I did try looking for the other shares thread but couldn't find it for some reason.

Anyway, how are people getting on with theirs?

Reason for posting is I have been strongly recommended to get on FOGL asap by someone who has a 6figure investment in it.

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are all on proper companies now and not risky investments. I've not got anything in at the moment save for 4 shares in ABF, which are hovering at around 4-50% profit for me. I should have bought more last year but didn't for various reasons and I've had to watch the price keep climbing. Bummer.

I'm going to wait to see what happens with the markets first as they appear to be a bubble ready to pop. I'll save a bit and then my plan is to get into INTC, maybe more ABF, a pharma, a bank and a few other reliable long term holdings.

FOGL - went to over £1 & down to less than 20p
No Oil, No Assets - just a large licence that potentially could hit a motherload - but no drill planned for another 12 months. Its a gamble, but they could easily go into the pounds if they find enough oil

All my savings are going into Dekel Oil - who are producing Palm Oil & could well be a wise long term investment.

I made a small fortune from MARL - but I am done with companies that are only exploring. Its to hit & miss and the share price can be quite volatile.

If you want something to hold for a long term - then maybe look at BLVN, XEL & GKP - all 3 got proven reserves & are now in the cycle of going from explorer to production - so the share price gets hammered as people dont like holding long term & get nervous. BLVN was £1 a year ago.. now just over 30p - XEL 75p today, £1.25 18 months ago.. GKP - around £1 today and sitting on 1.2 billion barrels of oil.

Best tip is not to listen to tips... (unless its genuine inside information... which is also rather illegal)

With small companies like that you're just hoping that you're getting in at the start of them being hyped up and if/when the price jumps a bit you can cash in on all the other chumps piling their money in on the basis of tips/hype/rumours... You might get a big pay off from these sorts of companies if they do actually start making serious returns but unless that happens its all pure speculation that they *might* be a good bet and the various price movements are just down to snippets of news or simply the stock being ramped up a bit by people such as your friend. Then again if you're not looking for a long term investment and think you can get ahead of and big moves it might be worthwhile... but the bid offer spread on these things is very wide... big spread & lots of short term punts = bad....
