Title: Paying for stuff by mobile phone?
Post by: Serious on January 10, 2007, 04:06:18 AM
And I dont mean ringtones or for games. BBC news 24 had an article on it being started in Africa next year, the idea being that there are a lot more mobile phones than banks so people can get credit put on their phones then dial up someone else and  have the money transferred from their phone to the receiving one. Once you have it you take it to a kiosk and get the credit refunded.

May be useful for such things as paying bus fares and for papers too if it takes off, possibly leading to the option of a completely cash free country?

It would certainly reduce the problem of kids pocket money and coins wearing holes in your pocket. Also would mean no little 5Ps to loose.

Of course there may be a problem sorting out payments in other currencies but it should be easily solveable.

You can already do it in lotsa countries, like puzzle pirate you can get 48 dubloons for a fiver on your phone. Its a good idea in a way.
