Title: Presentation
Post by: Sam on June 17, 2006, 17:20:55 PM
Lindsey has to do a presentation on herself as part of a job interview. It is just meant to be 5 minutes about herself. Any ideas what she can include?

Strengths
Weaknesses.
Achievements.
Asperations.

She should include both personal and professional examples of both and when talking about her weaknesses she should have a counter discussion on them in the asperations section.

^^^ what he said

or.....

she could flash her chest, then say she misunderstood "presentation" then tell them to give her the job or shes sue ?

(p.s. i used the word "chest" instead of "tits" so this is technically still a respectful post!)

Maybe not....but I think the right dress at interviews can go along way tbh

blimey Ive had to do this sort of thing a few months back - this is my take anyway.

I think for a presentation/5 minute intro or whatever it is they want then giving a general overview of both previous work(emphasise any positions of authority or achievements), future intentions/ambitions(+ link these ambitions/intentions into why she wants to work for that particular company) and a bit about herself (i.e. personal interests, motivations past achievements). Id avoid going too much into strengths/weaknesses as that is almost certianly going to be asked at interview anyway.

be careful when going through weakness as you shouldnt be negative in an interview

for example a weakness could be perhaps sometimes I take too many tasks on at once - although it is a mild self criticism it also demonstrates hard work which is of course a positive aspect. Try to make sure any weakness you want to admit to isnt actually anything overly negative.

some other points off the top of my head: Obviously you need to have an answer to why you want to work in that particular job & why XYZ company in particular + emphasis on any previous work experience/skills/qualifications relevant to the role.

in most interviews they tend to ask if you have any questions - make sure you do ask some - one good one Ive found - along with the general ones about the company - is to turn it around and clear up anything you might have messed up -  "I wonder if you could give me a bit of feedback, do you have any apprehensions at all about taking me on or is there anything I could perhaps clear up further"

Firstly, she has to point out her fantastic arse... ;)

Best thing to do is make a list of key words that sound good and find examples where you have excelled at them.

Driven, focussed, motivated, creative,

Weakness can be something like going into too much detail.  Too much planning.  You dont want a weakness like No patience for fools.

I have a book somewhere regarding keywords.  Ill go look for it.

BTW, prepare an answer for Where do you see yourself in 5 yrs and Why do you want this job type questions.  They are the hardest to answer.

Oh, while I think on.  Make sure you practice the presentation to at least one person.  That way they can critique, offer advice.  Dont just try and wing it or kid yourself that practicing it in your head will be ok.  How much do you want this job?

Sam, check your PM.
