white guy in black makeup...
I couldn't care less about being PC etc....
but it's a bit bad when people won't even say hello back to him... move away if he sits next to them... blank his questions... won;t let him rent an apartment for being 'so black' etc. etc. etc.
(and I only flicked through it)
If you go out searching for racism then its probably not going to be too hard to find it.
Approaching a bunch of skin heads is likely to generate the sort of response he was looking to capture. This sort of documentary is never really going to be particularly balanced or informative at all. He could well have found similar responses in any western country.
I only flicked through it... didn't see the skin heads bit etc... but I the bits I did see looked worse than that
I deal with a good mix of people, from millionaires to crack heads, and while plenty of them are happy to slag off immigrants/minorities etc... I don't think any of them would refuse to rent a black guy an apartment or get up and move because a black guy sat next to them....
and in my experience there's less racism directed towards black people over here than other minorities simple because most black people have been here longer than other minorities and are better integrated than those who have immigrated here more recently
even when you look at the lower end of society (scrutters) most of them are more than happy to slag off black people/minorities etc because they think it's cool or the accepted thing to do... without really believing it... it's not uncommon to hear things like "I f**king hate packies... except for gary... he's ok... oh and steve" etc. etc. etc. - it's not real racism, it's just dumb scrutters passing racism down through the generations.. all talk and no walk
A lot of the time when you hear people slagging off 'pakis' it's because they're annoyed that they actually bothered to work hard to get where they are, instead of sitting in wetherspoons claiming benefits.
Some/an increasing majority of people think the world owes them a living and they will happily scapegoat and make excuses for why they are stuck in a crappy job or just sitting around on the JSA.
edit - with that said though, I do think the immigration into this country is laughable and is being exploited by utter urine takers coming in and churning kids out all on the taxpayer.
I've got to agree overall with what knighty and matt5cott said, the type of racism we have here is not at all the same and for the most part the real racists make themselves very well known through the avenue of the BNP.
Racism shown over here generally consists of straw man arguments over immigration and societies problems.

I'd be fairly sure that the guy filming that documentary probably has hours of footage of minor racism or non-incidents or incidents where he experienced none at all. Reality is that a white guy dressing up as a black guy, aside from looking like a freak, is essentially trying to find racist encounters to film for his documentary - he found them, it probably wasn't that hard to find them and he cherry picked them then put them together on film - it all painted the picture he wanted to paint in the first place.
I think it would be fairly trivial to find places in the UK where you could experience similar incidents.
I wonder how well a guy in a tracksuit putting on an Irish accent would do with Landlords in the Dale Farm/Basildon area at the moment. Certain areas of Germany have experienced trouble from Somalis....

Perhpas there is - that is quite feasible, its also quite feasible that a 2nd/3rd generation guy of say Jamaican descent would probably experience a lot less prejudice than someone fresh off the boat from Somalia. (or a white guy in makeup purporting to be someone fresh off the boat).
Reality is that racism in many forms exists in all countries - it isn't necessarily any more endemic in Germany - or at least you can't really draw that conclusion from a bunch of cherry picked clips.
eh? it's pretty obvious they've cherry picked the worst they've seen.... no-body is saying they didn't...
the woman who wouldn't rent him an apartment commented a few times (to the people who went in after him) as to how good his German was - assuming it's just a random German guy in make-up his german/accent will have been the same as the rest of germany ? hardly 'just off the boat'
yI think you should watch it again.... I'm not saying all germans are racist, or that germany is worse than anywhere else... but what the videp shows is pretty bad...
tbh germany is probably a lot better than places like America/Australia/South Africa etc...
You could get the same result in Sweden and in any other european country (as Dave points out), rascism excists but this kind of flicks can perhaps lessen rascism.
Yup - that is pretty much my point - for all we know he might have had to go thorough hundred of hours of footage of non incidents in order to capture that footage or conversely every other person he met might have been a part of that film. Cherry picked clips from a guy actively seeking to find racist encounters don't really give any reflection of the level of racism within a particular society and someone could quite easily have got similar results from any other European country.
Yeah, if one got the info about how many out of 1000 who reacted in a racist way, when one would know the level of rascism in that particular country.
