Title: Sandpaper and string
Post by: PuNk on October 11, 2006, 22:04:46 PM
its amazing what you can do when you put the effort in.

The other day I bought a cheapo acoustic guitar, I didnt really need it, but it was on some crazy sale for Ã,£40 and it looks sexy (http://jc86.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/guitario.jpg), so I thought, why not.

Its acoustics are nice but the action was high so it became out of tune further up the fretboard and it came pre-strung, with the crappest strings ever.

So today I got some new strings and whilst changing them sanded down the bridge a little to lower the action, sounds sexy now and its keeping its tuning all the way down the board. for Ã,£45 im well chuffed.

haha I know what you mean, I dont like new strings the first few days tbh, they sound too tinny, a little bit of resting + sweat gets a really sexy sound, then after a fortnight its crap again but ill be too lazy to change them haha.

Nice guitar there red, my semi-acoustic is a cut out and I keep slamming my fingers into the side on this one haha. Bruised knuckles FTW.

haha permanent scarring is the way to go :)

after a while youll start to "pop" and slap the strings like a bass causing many interesting sounds. pinch harmonics sound like an organ :)

If they are open heads you need to replace the post holes, that usually fixes it. Since the string is taut and as a consequence the post is pulled tight most buzzing in my experience is caused by a loose post hole. If they are closed sealed units youll have to replace the whole thing Im afraid.

You can get post holes here:

if looking for new heads id advise spend a fair few bob, theyre quite cheap Ã,£15ish, but if you spend more on a nice set you can tune them much more accurately and theyll hold their place better.
