The government of France is trying to help young people get jobs by removing the barriers to them being hired and fired. So the youth riots in appreciation.

Hiring youth is always risky, and youd avoid it too, if it was impossible to ditch them. Duh.

Clueless Frenchies.

I watched newsnight comparison between the french "protests" and the british protests.

Its clear the french youths are just out to cause trouble. Looking at the footage side by side you cant help but see the differences, with the british marches there were minimal police presence, and in fact the footage showed protestors actually talking to the police walking by the side of them.

France... there were petrol bombs, water cannons, and stones involved.

WTF is up with that country?

Its actually a very difficult vote IMO as bosses could employ people and then throw them out after the 2 years. All employees should have some job security or they get walked over.

AFAIK there may be some adjustments in the pipeline.

Either its because theyre french or their government is trying to do a Maggie Thatcher. She forced the issue into violence at Wapping, against the miners and then the poll tax protestors. Then did a very good job of tarring the protestors with the blame.

Really though the French workers have a history of militancy

If an employee does crap work and this is confirmed by a review, it shouldnt be difficult to fire them. If the place is downsizing or theyve become redundant, same thing.

More senior employees should get the opportunity to get some sort of contract written up to give a little more security.

Over here you can be fired at any time for any reason, as long as its not about your age, gender, or racial profile. Ive been fired because my boss hated my homosexual friends. Fully legal. Whoopeee.

Which just shows how bad it is living in America  :(

Opportunity for the few, not the masses.

That was a long time ago, in a small wealthy white "Christian" satellite city to my moderately sized southeastern burg. Expected as much tbh. It was pretty mutual. They had forbidden me to wear my Adam, Eve, and their dog t-shirt as it offended their "guud crischun valyooos".   As long as I didnt get a cross burned into my lawn, its all good.

The protesters have no idea what the hell they are trying to do. The country is in a bit of a mess. Noone is employing anyone due to 2 main reasons, first is the crippling and way overly expensive social contributions you must make for them, second is that the law as it stands, if you want to get rid of an employee you have to continue paying him abround 80-90% of their wage for the following 9 months... this leads to employers saying "Id rather use illegal labour because its cheaper" or "employ someone? Are you kidding?".

This move is about the best thing that could happen to France. I will be looking to employ someone moreso now than before this.

The students should realise that its a different world outside their lecture theatre and when they, by some miracle find a job they should be bloody grateful that their governments stand at trying to stimulate a stagnant and outdated economy. I have to admit during the general strike next week, this businessman will be open for business, and f**k these pissants opinions.

F**king layabout scroungers tbh. Get a perspective on it and then whinge if you still feel aggrieved.

It should be equal for adults but the employer laws should not be too tight.

Tongy

True, but youd think these people had a point to have a bee in their bonnet as bad as this.

Employment should be a semi-mutual thing. Without a company there are no jobs, without people there are no companies and to this end there should be flexibility to hire/gain employment and fire/quit jobs as the market sees fit.

The unions are in control here, pure and simple. They need to have their powers limited. Thatcher did it and it seems to have worked so far :D Chirac doesnt have long enough to do this, thats if he even wanted to .... this employment reform was De Villepans idea, and I reckon its a step in the right direction.

the french need to get a grip tbh... seems to be the national past time to go mental & fight the government - even worked a few hundred years ago! - we must be about due another blocade of the channel tunnel & a ritual burning of british lambs too fairly soon?

The students are just winging - if they are too short sighted to see that liberalising the employment market will actually help them get jobs (unless they are complete mongs) then they deserve to be ignored.

Maggie Thatcher went all out to distroy the Unions, not control them, and she nearly achieved that aim. In France the issues are different, nearly every group of working people seem to be militants and Chirac is unpopular as it is, he needs to get some reform in but if he goes too far then hell be pushed out. That means threatening drastic changes and then backing off to the position he really wants.

Its been that way since the French revolution, perhaps they need to get some royalty back into the country? :mutley:
