Anyone thought of doing it?
I am soooo tempted to put away the dosh to go for a licence.
You can do a tandem + 8 AFF jumps for Ã,£1200ish Then after 10 more jumps youve qualified as a skydiver. :o
Didnt realise it was so cheap always thought it was insanely expensive.
Been reading up on the BPA (british parachuting association) website and found this dude: http://www.tffe.co.uk/
Run by military skydiving display team... so they have to be good cop like :)
Anyone else tempted to do the same?
Edit: should add... even though I am completely terrified of heights, I find "coming down" quite fun, used to do climbing and abseiling back down was the fun bit! :) heck.. dangling over overhangs was fun :D It was the climbing up that sucked and got me. So I reckon Ill love this skydiving malarky. Just got a major attraction to it.
My sister went a few times tandem. She loved it though i would never go. Id probably spew and brown all over everyone
You couldnt pay me enough to jump out of a plane. eek.
Now, ballooning could be fun. :D
I looked in to it a few years ago, but I couldnt find a place local. Ive got a car now so I may think about it again :)

I have jumped.
I started the raps course in my 3rd year at uni and did a total of 14 jumps - 8 on static line but the rest were freefalls.
If you want to skydive, do AFF and do it in a hot country - British weather is a pain and is probably the reason I ended up stopping as it was always either too windy or too cloudy or too wet.
I was scared of heights but I think that the skydiving cured it... at least for a while.
Be prepared to be totaly scared of planes after your first jump!
My bro did a tandem for his 21st.... frickin loved it and hes got the DVD to prove it!! Id reccomend doing one first, they are _only_ Ã,£150....at least youll know then!!
One of my best mates did it for charity - he hates heights and cant manage rollercoasters - on the drive there I had to keep calming him down as he kept asking me to turn around!
"No Mark, your entire family is following us - and think of the children youll save with the money!"
"Well, but but but"
"But youre going to fall several thousand feet out of a moving aircraft..."
"Aaarrrggghhh!"
Heheheh. I think he landed funny and his leg hurt for a month or so after (silly boy, in his fear he didnt remember what his tandem guy had told him to do on landing), but I think he enjoyed it :)

Id love to do it... and I dont have any problem with hights or planes, as long as Im holding onto something solid.... i can;t let go tho :s
did rock climbing years ago, loved it, was way ahead of the other peeps there.... tho when it came to jumping off etc... (on a swing) there was no-way i could do it, I once told some guy to kick me off the raftors in the roof because i couldent let go, but he wouldent :(
Id b tempted to do it if they could tie my hands and feet, and maybe strap me to a bit of wood so I had no choice in it... its one of those things that seames much easier once its over ;)
Alan.... ill take you abseiling with me and my bro and my missus one day... that way when you freeze, she can clip into the back of your harness and drag you off the top!!! :D
Sara.... whats the name of the place your mate went diving.... its the same place as my bro went but i cant remember the name and im at jos atm!!

Hinton, it says on his certificate. Sounds about right...
Yea... thats the place.... is it far from you? We were about an hours drive north of it as i remember.

It was a good drive. Cant remember which direction it was though, sorry!
Bed time now - night :)
Night!
Ahhh mint :)
Been looking up more information. Apparantly AFF is frowned upon for newguys as it cost so much and hardly anyone passes on the first try.
RAPS is apparantly the way to go. and its about a third of the cost :D lol.
I think Ill definately look into this to be honest.
lol Alan... swinging down is the best part.. although you have to remember that self be-laying equipment doesnt make you fall that slowly, its slow.. but not that slow, you have to be prepared when you land :D lol At least on the one Ive used in the past. Bit gnarly when your going "woooooo! ah sh*t! floor!!!! TWISSSTTTTT(ankle)"
Fond memories climbing half way up a wall that had 3 overhangs on it as well. You think you look so cool doing a sylvester stallone lookalike thing dangling from it by one hand :D lol. Massive buzz.
But yeah I had problems cresting most walls massively scared of the last move. :) Prefer to throw hands back.. and kick off of the wall. :D going down is so much fun :)

The thing with skydiving is that unlike most things in life you really want those strings attached otherwise it goes all pear shaped, or rather splat shaped.
har har :)
I dunno.. just got a major urge to do it. I was looking at local TA Units other than the signals lot that im considering joining and came across these guys:
Notice anything odd about them from a normal army unit aside from the red cross armband?
Theyre C144 (parachute) medical squadron (volunteers)
The only airborne medical squadron in the entire UK, designed to support 16 air assault brigade. Rather tempted to give them a look in :) lol.
Skydiving rocks :nana:
I did it when I was 18.. I sort of won it in a raffle :D most amazing experience Ive had!
The thrill of falling a 10,000 ft in 50 secs (ish) is amazing, granted when that canopy opens you do get a feeling of relief, but even with the canopy open the remaining ride back down to the ground rocks! the views are amazing!
If you get a chance in life to do it at least once id do it!!
:D:D:D
really want to do i again, but would rather learn to fly now... Ive probably got about 22hours flying to my name, but ive never solod :( so ill have to start from scratch now :D but from the flying ive done it rocks, it is up there with skydiving :D!!!
