supposed to be between Blackpool and Greenwich.
tbh.. I reckon it is pretty dumb to just allow the one - why not allow both to have one - one for the north & one for the south.
Either way I reckon if there is just one then London should get it - blackpool is a holiday destination for chavs - there are millions of people living in london & most of them earn a bit more too.
if the govt wants to make a decent amount of money from it & make it available to more people then there isnt any other option tbh..
I dont think its that simple...
in what way...
There are plenty of small casinos in London already, putting a big one there would close down a lot of the smaller ones that may not be able to compete.
London is already a packed city whereas Blackpool is rather run down. OK plenty of chavs go there but would they let them into the casino anyway?
It has a higher chance of improving Blackpool than London and at the moment that is preferable.

doubt it - Las vegas casinos have hardly become bankrupt because there is more than one of them & London has a larger population than las vegas & also has plenty of tourists
you also have to realise that current casinos tend to be suit & tie upper class gentlemans clubs type places - a las vegas style super casino certainly wont be

that is a valid point & IMO the only good reason for it going to blackpool - but there is still high unemployment in areas of london
the more important reasons though are the benifits to the nation as a whole through contributions to the public purse. Firstly the US company that has purchased the dome with govt support will not go ahead with planned developments (including two hotels on the sight) unless they get the casino - the govt will lose out on a few hundred million instantly if they give it to blackpool as thier deal when purchasing the dome was on a split of future profits & there is also a future danger that the dome could fall into disuse. In addition to the the annual tax revenue from the London would be far higher than that from the blackpool one.
OTOH there will be plenty of claims that the deal was fixed too. It could end up a hot issue for them. Better let the other one have a start and then put forward a second one up in a year or two.

true - though would be a shame if london lost out just cos fat man prescott f**ked up
will be interesting to see result - due at 11:00 am
I loath Blackpool, its the arsehole of Britain, that said its got more of a market for a "Good" casino in comparison to the ones there already. Ive been in wearing jeans and a t-shirt, the only request i had regards to behaviour was not to smoke at the table.
Manchester win - surprise result

QuoteManchester has been chosen as the surprise location of Britains first Las Vegas-style "super-casino".
The decision is a blow for Blackpool and Londons former Millennium Dome who were seen as the frontrunners.
The licence is to build a venue for up to 1,250 unlimited-jackpot fruit machines.
heh, I wonder if itll be in moss-side just to make sure that anyone winning gets mugged on the way out ?!
well its a better choice than blackpool at least - makes sense to stick it in a big city rather than some scummy resort
Solihull got one of the 8 large casino licenses that got announced

Definite muggings, Manchester got it.

As I said, it would look far too much like Prescott stirring it up, and Blair/Brown couldnt afford that.
So they take it from chav beach and shove it into chav city...
manchester as a city has a fair number of chavs - though it is the 3rd biggest city in the UK & has plenty of wealthy people in the surrounding area too
tbh... it was the 2nd best choice out of all the contenders
London would have been the best but they either didnt want the controversy or have placed a big emphasis on using the casino to regenerate an area.
wow middlesbrough got one

"The Cheshire Set" as they are known, rich and hell some of them, and its a very affluent area. Add on all the Local footballers and the like and youve got some serious spending power. Its probably the largest concentration of money outside of London/stockbroker belt.
apart from the super casino isnt much about the high rollers end
tis a massive room packed full of slot machines that generally attract the lower end of society in the hope of winning big.
yay for gambling
