I just like the idea of Japan, Thailand would be to humid for me and Id like the hustle and bustle of Tokyo specifically.

The reason I want to do this is because itd be a life experience, something I could tell my kids and grand kids, something to be proud of.

I like the idea of Prague too and especially the idea of living like a king :D

So mr_roll gets off the plane, insults one of those ninjas and ends up mr_head_rolled_away.

Not a pretty sight IMHO

Quote from: mr_rollOk, they dont really, Im just sick of some people saying degrees are the great thing.

I think they arent a touch on real life experiences.

I completely agree as far as soft subjects are concerned business studies, media studies etc.. are a joke..

I mean someone who learns some basic accountancy (essentially requires the ability to add and subtract and follow some rules), some basic marketing etc.. then writes a few essays hasnt had to do anything particularly challenging aside from learning and regurgitating information.

At least with pure science & engineering the students are expected to understand concepts that are a bit more challenging and then apply that knowledge to problems that actually require some intelligence.

True, my ex-step brother returned from Uni with the knowledge on how to edit a film, but I think he did a Marketing degree.

I dont understand. And for me to do a degree is an insane amount of money! and I cant stand being taught in a class room, Id rather be taught on the job. (One reason I didnt go to Uni)

Id also like to get an AE86 and go drifting in some illegal Japanese street racing.

surely to teach another country english you need to be able to speak the other language?

anyway i would love to go to japan but the cost of living is ridiculus, its like £40 for a big mac meal.

Ive been considering an offer for an electrical engineer in nanjing, but its not realy the right time for me at the moment.

Apperently not, some places Ive read about on the internet ask for different levels of Japanese though. from "conversational" to "entry level" to even none.

SteveF

you will almost certainly need to have at least a degree or a teaching qualification to be able to teach in Japan.  Youre up against a lot of people doing the same whore very qualified.

Chinas meant to be fairly easy to get teaching work privately thats pretty well paid.

Have mates who went to Japan (Tokyo) teaching and ended up eating sugar in water to stay alive due to the cost of living versus income.  Without at least decent Japanese youd be unable to operate outside of Tokyo really.  In Tokyo everyone speaks english to you even if you want to speak Japanese.  The friends who went to China didnt come back

TEFLs the answer tho.

Thanks steve, that worries me that they didnt come back!!

Yeah I think Ill find a reputable TEFL, some courses are a weekend course and some are like 4 weeks. I think Ive found a good one.
