I like Stephen but he's got rather a narrow view on trolling. Yes people who post inflammatory comments for no reason other than to upset people or seek attention are rather sad individuals. However other forms of trolling can be both highly amusing and quiet valid - 4chan's trolling of Scientology for example. I also don't have issue with say someone trolling a fascist/extreme right wing forum or nutty religious/creationist forum or alternative medicine/homeopathy etc... forum. Where people believe in irrational/stupid things a well disguised troll would be much more effective in influencing opininon than someone simply arguing with them. Trolls have their place and certainly don't have to be openly abusive/hurtful.

Actually Stephen, no, X.
Sounds like he hit the nail on the head to me.
He makes some valid points but he takes Twitter and the like way too seriously. People like Charlie Brooker go out of their way to wind up the idiot masses (much to the amusement of others) and frankly, if the way we're heading is giving these idiots an avenue to voice their opinions then I don't consider that trolling, I consider it a public service.
If you've been on hotukdeals recently it's full of people screaming 'troll' at anyone saying something they remotely don't agree with, the rise of the term is getting embarrassing tbh, infact screaming 'troll' at someone can in itself be 'trolling' ::)
No I agree, it's completely overused now to the point where it will lose meaning, like lol.
As if I needed evidence:

I've not heard of that Charlie bloke but he just sounds like an 'aggressive' and 'edgy' guy I know at the pub  I don't get 'funny' nowadays, I think someone broke my funny, I'm going back to shi 'poor quality' ninja movies.
He has a newspaper column and produces a lot of stuff for TV like screenwipe, Channel 4s recent Black Mirror series. But yeah, he is essentially your edgy pub bloke ;D but his screenwipe stuff is great:

I'm a troll...
Being contradictive is one thing, it's when someone becomes excessively so that is the problem. Particle physics has access to some of the most irrational and stupid theories ever, the problem is they seem, as far as can be proven, valid.

A vile excuse for a TV programme (Not Screen Wipe), I've never wanted to bash my own head in before, but after seeing clips of that disgusting excuse for a show I almost went ahead and did it. Just imagine what it would do to someone who is suicidal. Christ if that's our future then we are f**ked.

Can you give me an example of a theory in particle physics that you consider 'irrational and stupid' but which has also since been proven valid? I'm curious...

I've seen to catch a predator many times before a few years ago when it was on Sky here, it's quite quite brilliant, some of the chat logs and the excuses they come out with are legendary, I remember once some guy said he came up to just say hi, Chris Hansen says something like you drove 5 hours over 2 states to just say hi?
Then they found condoms and lube in his truck
