QuotePresident Bush has signed a directive that gives the White House much greater control over the rules and policy statements that the government develops to protect public health, safety, the environment, civil rights and privacy.
In an executive order published last week in the Federal Register, Mr. Bush said that each agency must have a regulatory policy office run by a political appointee, to supervise the development of rules and documents providing guidance to regulated industries. The White House will thus have a gatekeeper in each agency to analyze the costs and the benefits of new rules and to make sure the agencies carry out the presidentââ,¬â,,¢s priorities.
This strengthens the hand of the White House in shaping rules that have, in the past, often been generated by civil servants and scientific experts.
It doesnt sound as ominous as it really is. Trust me. Thats scary. :panic:

that could come back to bite the republicans when hillary clinton becomes the next president
Hillary doesnt stand a snoballs chance in hell of winning, unfortunately. Shes hated by virtually anybody slightly right of center and thought of as a leftist, but her voting record is actually so far to the right, that people on the left consider her a calculating hypocrite. She voted against the constitution to give the executive branch unprecedented powers.
Like I always say on Usenet--anybody that voted aye for that bill should be taken outside to the Capitol lawn and shot in the back of the head with a revolver, the 80 or so bodies of the rapidly chilling Senators should then be dumped into a mass grave, then immediately afterwards as a squadron of F-16s does a ceremonial fly-over, an Iraqi war widow for each Senator marches forward, squats over the edge, and lays a turd as a fitting garnish to the bodies, a bugle plays, and a Bobcat quickly fills the hole in.
But thats just my take on it. :D
Sure does sound scary to me (http://img103.exs.cx/img103/8325/angry2.gif)
well I reckon if it comes down to a race between a white woman & a black man then good ole amerikkka might well stick with the bitch
Gore/Obama, tbqph. Americas perfectly ready for a black man in the white house. No, theyre not ready for somebody like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, from the old guard slightly militant warmed over 70s movements--but I dont think color is a barrier at all for somebody like Obama. I dont think hes the second coming--Ive voiced my cynicism about him before--but hes got a style and power in his oratory that can heal a nation.
There are people that shout about Bill Richardson as a good candidate, and I think thats crap. Bills a great Governor--but hes hispanic--and Americas too resentful of illegal immigration to elect a short hispanic guy, despite him being well qualified. Shame. Also on the short list you have John Edwards, who was the vice presidential candidate in 04. I cant stand the man. Running for office requires ego for sure, but this mans self love is so great that he disgusts me. He made his millions with frivolous lawsuits as a trial lawyer and lives in a 30,000 square foot palace on 100 acres of land--and then dares to talk about humility and helping the poor? Puh-lease. Theres living a comfy life of what money can provide, sure, and then theres thinking that 10X that is better. Yuck.
Gores my man. Hes looser and more charming than ever. Hes got a solid base of support--he did win in 2000, though didnt get to be president due to an interventionist SCOTUS. It would be justice, and it would be good leadership.
Black man in the white house.... what is this 24..... put jack bauer in!

Then they would have two black men in the white house
Send in the Governator to terminate...
TBH I dont care who they replace bush with - as long as they get rid of him.
Heather Martin for the Presidency?
democrats seem to be using the hatred of bush to put forward the two least likely demographics for gaining power
but will america hate the republicans so much that either of those two candidates could get in?
The ideal American President would be Black, Female, and a Married Lesbian...(the lesbian aspect just to piss all the evangelical/rapturist jebus(h) lovers off.. :P )

Of course the odds of this happening are so low Ill never see it in my lifetime... :(
The GOP dont have a chance in hell winning in 2008, unless the Dems put forward a stoopid candidate. (Clinton)
Joe Biden should announce his bid in a couple weeks. Hes a good choice for either the top or bottom of the ticket. Articulate, charming, and he looks like he wears a tux after 6pm. Only liability is that hes a Delaware yankee.
