Read a western once where a guys eye gets gouged out and he describes how it displays the ground swaying back and forth till the optic nerve dries out and it breaks off.

my sisters mates mothers eye ball came out when she (somehow) accidently hit herself in the head with the back end of a pair os scisors :s
(kind of think i would think was fake is i didnt hear it from the hourse mouth....)
shes a nurse so.... she popped it back in :o
Thre are four directional muscles to control eye movement, they would all have to be severed before your eye could leave its socket so this is dodgy at least. Still fun though 8)
My sisters eyeball was removed in order for her operation to take place. According to her (she was kept awake throughout just used local anaesthetic for some reason) they put a clippy thing and pulled her eyelids back and just popped it out.
