The main problem i found with my old A925 was keeping the screen clean enough to use, they get messed up as soon as you put them in your pocket.  The Symbian OS is fantastic, but if you do take the Simbian route avoide the Motorola version of the UIQ interface, it sucks.

Other options are something like one of the XDA series, mate has just picked up an XDA Orbit, and its pretty good.  Im considering an XDA Mini or Exec because i want more features, failing that ill swap over to Vodaphone because theyll give me an Ericsson P9xx series for free on contract.

Both are pretty good, but the XDAs tend to only have 1Mpx cameras, that might cause problems for some folks who use the camera.  I dont so it doesnt bother me.

Ive had mine a few months now, top bit of kit, the only worthy replacement for my ageing 7610!

Tomtom runs Grande on it, worth that on its own!

Matt have you got example of a night time shot out on the lash? Full resolution?

Sony Or Nokia really.  Anything else imo and your going to be shouting at the menu for either a fault or not as intuitive as it could be.

Id go K800i out of those choices.

Night time shots are going to be a bit rubbish, as its just an LED, theyre still passable most of the time to be honest.

The pic of me in a balaclava with a pint is in very low light, you can see its pretty pixelated, but obviously its going to struggle in the coditions.

Yeh, the reason I ask is because I have seen the night times pics with flash from the K800i and they looks excellent for a mobile phone.

Wondered how they could compare.

I couldnt agree less.  Both sony and Nokia (especially that nasty Symbian os) are the worst phones Ive ever used.  Neither brand can make reliable phones.

Ive taken the plunge to Windows Mobile.  Everything else is garbage in comparison.  Cameras not good, but its a phone.  Buy a seperate camera and have the best of both worlds.

Have you used S60? its not the same as a proper windows mobile but I think its spot on, cant get on with sony es myself, and tbh I think PDA size phones just make the owner look like a chump

Matt what is the N73 like for speed? Can you still change message tones? Good alarm which you can set for more than one day ?

I dont know if you have tried the N70 (which i have now) and just opening the menu takes like forever.

I disagree.  Symbian is actually very very good, but it takes some tweaking.  Its fully customisable, in ways that Windows Mobile only dreams of.  My Motorola got pulled apart and put back together because i loathed the interface, couldnt do that with WM even if i wanted to.

your very very wrong.  The whole WM interface can be pulled apart.  Look at the rom kitchens over at XDA developers.  The S60 interface makes me want to launch the phone at the wall.  The N-Gage wasnt too bad, but my mums N70 is just vile.  Give me an old startac over that anyday.

I only had a WM phone for a couple of weeks on loan, I didnt think it was too bad, but didnt have the time or inclination to spend customising a stop-gap.  You are very wrong about Symbian as well, probably for similar reasons I am with Windows Mobile, you really need to be using something for a few months before you can use it properly.  Symbian is nice, its open-source and you can get a multitude of applications for it.  Loved it once i had hacked it to get rid of the nasty Mota code they had stuck in there.

Very brisk, I didnt have an N70 but the menus on this dont hang about at all :) and yes you can change the message tones, if you couldnt I wouldnt have got the phone  Yeah you can set multiple alarms/appointments in the calendar  :)

Have an n80 here, great phone, using it now to post on here, and talk on irc. Was a little bit tempermental before a firmware upgrade but now im loving it. If the n73 is anything like it you wont be disappointed.

Matt, I know what you mean abotu the message tone. Its something which I normally dont ask so could end up with disaster.

By alarm I meant the alarm clock itself rather than the calendar.

The N70 i use now I have to set alarm clock every day.
Previous phone I could check weekdays and times which saves me forgetting to set the alarm.
