Will someone introduce me to some Trance? Im having a hard time working out just who and what is Trance but I went to a party and they had a fair bit on, and I really enjoyed it :)

Thats good. Youve taken your first step into a larger world.

Hmm, such a loosely defined genre as you say...

Try and get hold of some DJ compilations (with tracklists - then decide from there):

DJ Doboy (a little mainstream but varied)
Armin Van Buuren (regarded as a master)
Above & Beyond (Up there with the best, IMO)
Tiesto... pfft - old hat now.

Artists:

Hmm, its early... ermm.

DT8 Project - Perfect World.  Album of the year me thinks.  Deep, soulful, intelligent trance.

See previews and get yer lugholes round Disc 1, track 12 "Tomorrow Never Comes".  Pure bliss.

Vini will doubtless fill in the blanks from my 39 year-old fuzzy mind!

my addiction to trance cost me dearly, my memory is completely F****d, it cost me 5 yrs and I lost my house, but my best times of my life were out clubbing/raving.

LOL a lot of Keygens use trance.

Yes trance comes in all forms of guises like hard trance, euphoric trance, and of course the more commercial (very much dance like, regular chart stuff). Its a pick and mix, so you probably need to work out what styles you like.

Theres a lot of good stuff from the 90s, so dont be afraid to go looking for some of the older names mentioned. Ive gone off the newer stuff, but I do like to occasionally throw some shapes.

people do and will take the piss, but 80s trance was the best, doing shapes with white gloves on and a whistle/trumpett, in your gob, and someone next to you doing the same as you you and stood infront off a speaker, was great.

Vini

Im afraid Ive moved away from the Trance scene - it kind of died on its arse just as I was getting into it (2004 ish).

All the tracks were just 200X versions of tunes from previous years. For instance Binary Finary etc...

A good place to start Id say would be Gatecrasher Red, Black and Wet albums. These have the classics.

Armin Van Buuren
Ferry Corsten
Above and Beyond
Paul Van Dyk
Tiesto

All mainstream trance producers/djs who will probably have something youll like. Armin and Ferry were my faves.

Im still huge on electronic music, but I tend to listen to more sensible things now like House variations (prog, tech).Basically tracks with slower bpms etc... Since opening iBeats Ive learnt to appreciate the wide variety of the Electronic genre, something that I never thought I would do.

A selection of my favourite artists at present:

Evil Nine
Hernan Cattaneo
Hybrid
Sasha
Adam Freeland
Felix Da Housecat
James Zabiela
John Digweed
Jamiroquai
Silversun Pickups

And labels such as, Marine Parade, Finger Lickin and Fabric.

Id say the Fabric discs would be a good way into Electronic music, theyre nearly always awesome and the genres vary from month to month - usually.

My favourite Trance track is still - probably - Punk by Ferry Corsten
My favourite Electronic track from all genres - pass.

Cheers for the input. Lots of info people :)

Currently listening to Perfect World Album from DT8 Project. A few names Ive recognised from passing talk at partys so I will investigate more.

It was a magic mushroom party I was at, battered my head but absolutely amazing at the same time. Huge house, sound systems playing different things on each level, a dark room in the basement, above that was two drum kits setup and people where just going at it like nutters on the drum kits just chilled out beats made in front of you :)

Dance Music. Festival. x2

In the summer do a muddy one and a sunny one. Stay off the drugs, if you must then do only as much as you need to do to be polite. 2 festivals is just right, 3 is ok but 4-5 is too many.
The music is (lets face it, heh) a bit cheesy and naff now, but its mostly about the people and atmosphere at places ...what Vini said is true though, the scene died a while back really. People are a lot more cautious going out and much less chatty outside the group of people their with.

I was mostly into d&b and its nice to be able to rattle off a list;

[big list]
superstar djs
[/big list]

and say youve seen sets from them all.

So do that :)

OT/ John Digweed - Gridlock is a very awesome tune.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Im into DnB as well such as Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Pendulum.

I go to Download festival for the metal inside of me, always a good festival, aint had any really bad experiences yet, only things stolen from my friends tent.

I get invited to Cream Fields every year and every year I end up working. 2008 may be my first year to go :) Also Leeds is one Ive done twice now and the music is good, but not great at all. A fairly good variation but some genres totally missed out.

Any good clubs to check out?

On the drugs topic, Im not really into them at all, I dont even drink any more. The main reason the magic mushroom party blagged my head was due to the fact everyone else where either high or tripping majorly. I just cant do anything like that any more, my childhood tricks down that root destroyed my brain a lot, nothings going to bring back what I lost due to them tho, so I just dont bother.
