Sam

I have an interview with an embassy on Friday, what would you wear if it was you? I am thinking smart casual, suit without tie basically. I think the whole suit + tie is a bit overboard?

Eagle

Id go Suit + Tie

If you get doubts at the last minute, you can always take it off. :)

Good luck. :)

...the tie, not the suit

Serious

Been with my brother, he wore smart casual, good quality, jeans, shirt and jacket. Providing you arent going for a job interview then its the best option IMO. Course, you could always carry the tie, just in case you bottle out :D

(damn I cant spell smart anymore, needed four goes!)

Yep, I suggested suit and tie as well, like you say you can always take them off if it appears too formal on arrival.

IMO you can never look too formal.

BigSoy

Yep, definitely easier to dress down in a hurry than up - can always chuck that tie in a pot plant...

Wouldnt go with jeans personally, thats not smart casual as far as Im concerned.

"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

Pete

You gotta match the clothes to how you want to run the interview. If in doubt Id go trousers + shirt + smart overcoat + shiny shoes.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

knighty

is it a proper interview ?

for my Indian visa I went in t-shirt and jeans... and to put it bluntly, if you were white and had a job you automatically got a visa ;)

Id say no tie, you want a long holiday not to run for precedent.

Sam

You wouldnt wear a suit and tie to get a new driving license would you ?

M3ta7h3ad

Smart Casual = Slacks and shirt, or smart polo shirt.

Definately not jeans. Jeans = Casual. Smart Casual = Trousers with a top.

Would consider wearing a suit jacket as a "sports jacket" just in case you end up at a place with "jackets are required sir" shoved in your face. :)

Serious

Some people and semantics. Sam, do you fancy avoiding the problem and going in a Christian Dior gown? Women dont have this stupid problem when deciding what to wear. OK normally takes them twice or three times as long as us to decide what to wear, but...

TBH it doesnt matter what you wear, providing it looks good and is preferably expensive. You dont want to let the British side down ;)
