Is it possible to upgrade OS like you do with a PC on a Windows Mobile device?

For example if I were to pick up a WM6 device in the next month or so, could I upgrade th OS to WM7 when its released?

Alot of firms offer upgrades when the new one comes out if the device supports it (I know HP does on its IPAQS) - You can also get hold of images to flash your own device with but I dont know if you can do this legally (dont see why not)

Devices are more designed for the OS than with desktops, whilst it is possible to upgrade i would advise against it.

Usually leads to random errors and compatibility issues

Ive never had any probs since I upraded my Hx4700 to WM5 not got round to going much higher.

If its a phone, unless there is a specific release, Id avoid it.

If its not a phone, meh... go for it.
