I am having major problems with my internet and it is becoming very frustrating!! I am having problems getting an ADSL Connection and when I do your lucky if it stays connected for 10 minutes.

I really am at a loss as to what the problem could be? I am not sure if it is a problem with the phoneline, the filters or if the problem lies with the ISP? My ISP is Orange who are know are noted for being one of the worst ISP but I am not sure if the problem lies with them as I have only been having this problem for about 2 weeks! Your help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Can be lots of things

correct router settings, router right next to the main phone port of the house and no other, Microfilters in all your phone ports, Distance from the exchange? Old copper wiring in the house? the ISP ...

Can be a number of things so you could do with listing your set up and what you have done so far etc, You rang or checked with Orange if there has been any issues or works in the area or the exchange etc?

Have you or anyone else in the house changed anything in the last few weeks? Moved equipment, put things on extension cables, that sort of thing?

If you are getting a connection at all I doubt that if is a router configuration problem.  You have interferance that is killing the signal.

Personally, I would disconnect everything from the phone sockets and test your connection.  Swap the filter for your router for another if you have to. If that works start putting phones/faxes etc back on the line one by one untill you identify the problem.

The most typical and notorious signal killer I find are sky boxes, people dont think they need a filter.

If this does not resolve the issue then deal with your ISP and walk through the hoops that is technical support to get a line check.

find out how far the exchange you are.  If you are right on the limit then you may be having issues due to line length.

If you are a log distance away, and the line isnt holding sync then you might want to ring up your ISP and moan at them until they change your line profile.  It fixes about 75% of the problems, i know from my short time doing bits of TalkTalk support that a quick flip of the line profile fixes a stupidly high number of faults.

Thank you for all your help!!

I have uninstalled the internet off my computer and reinstalled it and it now seems to be working fine, infact it is working better than it has done in a long time!!

Everyone should reinstall internets from time to time and keep a backup on floppy

Miss_blueeyes you should make a note of all your settings so if it happens again you can quickly check things over without having to reinstall the web :)
