You can get Vista SP1 now from Windows Update by changing a registry key.

Read about it here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17842056

Ive tried it and it works.  Be careful if youve got an ASUS P5N-E motherboard as people are reporting that the latest updates are causing a problem for this board.

Serious

There are supposedly several issues with drivers, although Microshaft claim that its the drivers that are dodgy and not Vista.

Sure if you want to f up your vista even more, lol
Wait for live and well it will be less buggy anyway but still a problem

I had it, ive detailed what differences I noticed in the Vista Sucks thread.  Its OK, but thats all.  Some things speeded up, but the network copy speeds where still terrible.  Ive put XP on the lappy again, and now I can stream media from my server box with no lag, no judders and no waiting.  In Vista I was forced to actually copy the files to the lappy to watch them.

Mark

did you turn off remote differential compression?

I notice no difference in network copy speeds.

I just notice that everything runs quickly, and I have had one crash so far since I got this laptop, and that was the dodgy dell webcam software

dont understand why you would want to install SP1 on your PC before it has been released and bug free, if it was ready for release it would be downloadable without messing around in your registery, wait till the official release is my advice, some people are just more impatient than i am.

some of us need to test it though.  My job involves supporting home users, and they will automatically expect me to know what the machine is doing on the day the service pack is released.  I had to check that they hadnt changed something too much so it had do resemblance to the Vista original release.  one example of this would be XP SP2 when the wireless connection dialogue was completely changed.

Curiousity and bordem is alot of peoples motives :P If it was unemployed still I would be having a play but its the last thing on my mind when I get home atm

It has been released bug free and ready to use.  SP1 was released on Microsoft Technet Plus Subscription a couple of days ago.  If you look hard enough youll find it on a torrent site somewhere.

This "hack" fools Automatic Updates into releasing it early.  If adds a few lines to your registry, the same way Microsoft for people testing the Beta packs in the first place.
