I friend of mine wants me to buy him some stuff, as Ill get it free from work, but im not sure of the exact names of things.....

He wants to hardwire an arieal booster in.....so wants a fused spur, that the wire goes in to....something like this:
http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/AA13CF.html But, where is the flex outlet on that?!

Also, he wants an immerson heater switch (for the hot water tank), which is on a timer, as people keep leaving it on, and it isnt the cheapest thing to run! Not a timer as in "on at 7am, off at 8am" but one where you press it, and its got an internal timer which last for 30mins for example. Can you get these?

Cheers

for the timer you can probably use one of these and just wire it to a relay with the appropriate rating. Reject Spares and Maplin may have them.

I think thats a bit more complicated than needed really. I was thinking something like this:
http://www.screwfix.com/prods/19689/Electrical/Timers/Time-Delay-Pneumatic-Sw-Polycarbonate

But for an immersion heater, rather than a lighting circuit.

For the timer, look for a timed light switch.

DEViANCE

for the fused spur the flex comes out of the bottom, there is a break out on it.

you can get time delay switches with variable delays (like 5mins-2hours) ive installed a lot lately for cigarette shelters heaters, should work with an immersion heater.
there are loads about, most for lighting though. make sure you get one that can take the load (about 13amp)

you shouldnt really be messing with mains electric, should be done by a registered spark (like me   -)  )

chris, get one of those you linked to then a 2nd hand contactor on ebay.... ;)

http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?ht=1&from=R4&saatc=3&salic=3%26saatc%3D-1&satitle=contactor&sacat=12576%26catref%3DC6

a 3 phase one is fine... any will do as long as it has a 240v coil (itll say on the advert bit).... (and theyre a piece of cake to wire in....

negative goes in at the bottom as does the power comming out of your switch
power comming in for the heather goes at the top, wire for the heather goes at the other side ;)

DEViANCE

a contactor is way over kill, just a time delay(or lag) switch rated to 13amp is plenty

Yeah, I wont be doing the work. He just asked me to get the bits, as we get discount at work. Im getting qutie a few bits, but these two I wasnt sure on. Although after Id posted I realised I was being thick with the fused spur, as its probably quite obvious it comes out the bottom!

I agree with Deviance, A time delay switch will do to be honest as it for a house.

Cheers guys :)

is 13amp enough tho ?   thats only like.... ~3kw ?
