Due to a change in my life Ill be needing a new ISP soon. Samknows says the following :

QuoteThe following services are available in your location:

 BT Wholesale ADSL
 BT Wholesale ADSL Max
 AOL LLU
 TalkTalk (CPW) LLU

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services

According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 1.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.

Standard ADSL RAG results:
 You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
 You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
 You can receive 256Kbps ADSL

Wanted to go with Be, but they say I cant have their service due to the exchange. Looking at the above Im not gonna be getting decent speeds anytime soon so I need a little advice. Ill be doing plenty of torrenting and downloading, not so much gaming. Speed isnt too important but Id like something nippy.

Any ADSL 8mbit provider then. Want me to run some tests for you from work?

Tha would be ace, what do you need, telephone number etc?

I left Pipex a few months ago and went with http://adsl24.co.uk Im really impressed so far, no messing around with traffic shaping and the like, good download limits and really good support.
I had a line fault that Pipex couldnt get sorted with BT for nearly 9 months  ADSL24 got it sorted out within 3 days of me reporting it.

And with regards to your initial post and Kriss, when i was on Plusnet i did 250GB one month and 300GB in another on their off-peak times, they honestly dont care.

Just had to get a MAC from Eclipse, when we had them down at my dads for a couple of months, for some reason they kept the account active, but not the service. The people on the phone seemed as surprised as me.

*edit - Does having a MAC mean I dont have to pay the activation fee if I get a net connection from a different ISP? That would make my life 10 times easier.

White Giant

Just rang up ADSL24, apparently no activation fee, nice.

White Giant

Went with ADSL24, no activation fee, should be up and running within 7 days.

/waits for the router from Tekheads.

Hope it all goes well for ya :D

I take it you no longer need line check info? I cant help with ADSL2+ stuff

White Giant

No thanks, cheer for the offer though. :)

I had to contact BT Wholesale in the end, it seems Eclipse kept a tag on the line, meaning no other ISP could set anything up.

After 15 or so minutes on the phone to Eclipse I managed to get a MAC from them, which I was very pleased about as I cant really afford the £47 activation fee.

*edit - Oh yeah, I was a little confused about the packages ADSL24 offered, normal ones regarding usage etc, but then after that I had to choose a fixed 1meg package or a max 8meg package. I phoned up to ask (phone aswered by an English accent after about 4 rings!  :wtf: ), and the nice chap explained that it was dependant on the telephone line and that if the test on the website said the line couldnt handle anything above 2meg to choose the 1meg package, as itd be more stable. Did the test and it said the line could handle upto 5.5meg, so I went with the 8meg package - both packages are the same price.
