Just done the warmup section, and the first 10 minutes of the vid.

Sweating like Ive run a marathon, but its only taken about 5 minutes for my breathing to return to normal, and my heart to slow. Was expecting much worse tbh.

I know its not a lot, but I dont think killing myself trying to do the entire thing is a great idea.

Quote from: White Giant1. Swimming - haha, not done that for 6 years, the day I get the confidence to take my Tshirt off in public will be met with

I thought that, but honestly, its the best thing you can do. its easier to work yourself when youve got water supporting you, so you can do more.

but get oiver the i look bad thing, cos the rest of the people in the laned sessions are there for the same reason. i thought that and i was one of the skinnier chaps there.

swimming helped me immensely, if it werent for my back being sore...

I now have a 50 quid rowing machine and i do 20 mins before getting a shower in a morning.

^^^ what he said,,, do swimming !

I went after I broke my leg... the first time I went I got in at the middle... thank crist I swam twards the shallow end and not the deep end otherwise theyd have had to jump in after me... I only just made it !

...but on the pluss side, the end where I kept stopping for a rest was the end where the female life guards sat and they (being bored as hell) were really friendly/chatty. :-)

if you go to a pool late I used to go between 8 and 9) itll be full of people like yourself trying to get fit... pluss there was always someone 25+stone there, so don;t worry about being the fat one !

Everyone will recommend their favourite exercise plan and for me strength training is as good as it gets - makes you feel better, and makes you feel you can tackle anything. You wont get cut unless you go on a gay cut, but youll get in a better shape. I bought a cross trainer as well to use on my off nights for 30 minutes - no need to do any longer.

When you get up the road, save for a bit and get some 2nd hand gear out of the local ads for free - exercise equipment is ten a penny, never buy new.

5 x 5s with maybe 4 exercises per muscle group (Chest, Back, Legs, Shoulders&Biceps) is the best way to go. If youre doing more than 45-60 minutes at a time, youre doing something wrong.

I went from 80 KGs x 5 x 5s when I started a good few years ago to 155 KGs x 5 x 5s now in the flat bench press. Im going to start competing again when i get the single above 175 again.

Bodyweight has remained more or less the same for the whole time. I think there is a couple of old routines of mine in the S&H section of this forum.

Age doesnt matter a damn either - Im 30 now, and I find that I am making slightly better gains than when i was 25.

I know a guy in his mid 70s still pressing 150 KGs

cant agree more.  I do weights and cross trainer mostly pretty much as described above, losing fat, gaining muscle and lifting more.

Then again Im also doing a gay cut so Im losing fat faster than gaiing muscle but Im switching to bulking soon.  Cant wait tbh

Its when people go on a diet and training regime specifically to make their muscle stand out more.

i just call it a gay cut :)

At the end of the day, the average 100KG bodybuilder is a lot weaker than the average 100KG powerlifter.

SteveF

A diet.

Basically its very hard to gain muscle when youre on a diet/cut.  Its much easier to gain muscle mass when youre stuffing your face.

Lots of people alternate between cutting down to a low body fat with a calorie deficit (the -500 kCal thing).  Then when they get low enough they eat LOTS and lift weights to increase the muscle size.  then you cut down again eating protein etc so the fat goes but the bigger muscles stay.  Rinse repeat.

If you just lift and eat lots then your muscles get big and you end up looking like a power lifter.  If you cut without bulking up you go ultra skinny and the muscles show (think Brad pitt fight club).  The latter look of abs and small but visible muscles is a look that lots of the gay community go for.

Yeah - that stuff wasnt really aimed at you I guess. :)  Just move about a bit and eat well.  Wait a month - voila

My general plan was to start doing swimming again, gained alot of weight while I was in London... want to loose the moobs and a bit of the beer belly.

Its just so much effort to get up and start doing it :P
