Toying with the idea of venturing back into the thankless murky world of unsigned live music!  8-)

Options are :

1 - Stay with metal - I know the scene, have friends on it but not very accessable to friends and family

2 - Go alt rock (Foo fighters etc..) - more accessable, can work in the metal scene just about - could get female vocal in which I want to do.

3 - Acoustic project - easy, no pressure, no band mates, hard to get gigs and perform live.

4 - Go indie - easy, accessable, easy to get gigs.-

Options 2/4 look good as Id love to get a female vocalist in to front the band. I could just play guitar then so less pressure.

What do you lot think?

Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Quixoticish

Theres nothing wrong with a mix of either 1 & 3 or 2 & 3 to be completely honest.

Sam

Do like a rock acoustic cover band, theyre always the best bands to see live in a pub instead of some bands own material, which might be very very good, but no one cares.

Serious

While you are keeping off the Emo avoid the Rap too ;)

Its good for your health

Awww and I was all ready to get my blaccent on too!!

Sam - 6 years in the UK unsigned scene and thats about the best definition of it Ive ever heard! May well be the route I go down.

I would if absolutely the right project came along. Trouble is to play metal you have to travel a lot because its really hard to find your audience, and I just dont have the time.

I like Sams idea because I can stick locally if I want, Ill get paid (no chance with metal!) and your target audience is a lot bigger and much easier to find.

Im with Sam, its sad but its true. Perhaps you can shoehorn one or two of your own tracks into a set so as to feel like less of a sellout.

Id always play my own stuff as well because I really get a kick out of it. Plus theres certain songs that in my home town Im always going to get asked to play (My Names Dave - the story of our mate and his granny addiction, and a few PV songs).

Planning a set list as we speak and looking for a cheap PA - getting quite excited now!

Im bored of new bands that are doing 1, 2, or 3.  Mainly because those doing 1 or 2 have allready got the art of it nailed down.

If I was starting out Id probably make a setlist of your bandmembers favourite songs and try and get some of your own material, your own idea of what you would like to listen to in there.
