I used to be nearly fifteen stone until about a year and a half ago. My mother dying, the DHSS doing the nasty with my benefits along with the stress and depression that followed cut that to eleven and a half stone within six months. Two stone of that went in just over one month. It takes a good bit of determination to keep my weight from dropping further so I can see why others would end up doing the reverse. Depression can make weight go either way, up or down. Once the weight is there it becomes increasingly difficult to get rid of it. No exercise and an inability to get out and about mean boredom so they just eat more to counter that. TV isnt really a means of reducing boredom, and plenty of food addicts equate it with eating so it would just make the problem worse.

Being addicted to something like food, gambling or alcohol is just as real a problem as being addicted to heroin or anti-depressants.

as you know In a year I expect Ive been out 10 times, I hardly move, every bite I take could put the pounds on, Im still 11 stone theres no way ill get so fat, now its to late, If my injections fail ill be in a home soon, joy for some I wont be able to post, theres no way staff will get me fat, I used to play games to cure boredom, I had to give that up, I didnt stuff myself to compensate, Im not moaning Im stating facts. I had to give up my favorite foods aswell.

I cant control Ataxia, and all my family have it, I lost my mum and 3 uncles and 1 Grandad and my kids might have it,  so on the emotional issues were the same, if I could walk Ataxia off id run it.

I didnt watch the program, however Elephantiasis (I assume thats what you mean by Elephantitus) has nothing whatsoever to do with obesity. Its caused by a mosquito-borne parasite and obstructs the lymph nodes causing severe swelling in the legs. I remember reading up about it after seeing some pictures on rotten.com or another one of those kind of sites.

Personally prefer to side with the studies that show there to be a link between depression and eating disorders.

You go one of two ways in most cases... you either starve yourself (yay for socially acceptable eating disorders) or you feed yourself because its the only thing that can cheer you up. The fact you think its BS doesnt make it any less factual.

so his 2 surgeries, twice weekly washes to prevent sores because hes to fat, doctor visits, how do you think they got him on the  reinforced operating table, (I suppose reinforcing the chairs and tables are free) i bet loads of hospital staff now have back problems, they removed 80kg of fat, who pays for his fast food I suppose thats all free aswel, think idiot. oh I forgot his 9-5 job pays for everything.

Unlike yourself, his family is still around him to help.

Did you ever stop to wonder why there was a taco seller situated outside of a giant glass window all around his bed that was on ground level directly viewable from the busy street... perhaps hes quite a tourist attraction.

Elephantiasis is caused by a parasitic worms. The worms are transmitted by mosquitoes. Controlling the insects and their contact with people can reduce the incidence of the disease.

Despite the fact they are worms they can still be treated with antibiotics, the reason being they need specific bacteria in order to survive, remove the bacteria and the worms die. There is another treatment but it only kills the larvae stage, not the adult worms, which can live for several years.

So even elephantiasis is preventable or treatable.

In the case of people being overweight we need to treat it as a disease, or at least an addiction, so it can be understood properly and treatments sorted for it. Just yacking that overweight people are bad isnt constructive and will never solve the problem.

Putting a massive tax on junk foods might help though, £10 tax on a big mac meal will make them think twice about buying one.

Its one thing to have a little joke about the fatties, but lets face it, Privateer - your threads tend to always be one big rant and I for one would like you to take a step back.  In an earlier post, you made a statement saying that i may have to go into a home which means I wont be able to post so some of you will be happy .... mate, snap out of it.  I would and everyone else would prefer you to post nice than go into any sort of home.
