My car has stiff gears. As in you have to push hard to get it into gear as if the clutch wasnt down properly (although it is). Any suggestions ?

is it through all the gears?
could be quite a few things

worn/stiff/damaged linkage
clutch cable/hydrolics worn/failing
gear box oil low
gearbox goosed (unlikely on all gears)

SteveF

Yeah could be a few things - gear linkage would be my guess tho (and probably the easiest fix).

Pete

Does it get better when the car is warm - oil change?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Edd

maybe its because youre in the states and its an auto and youre actually trying to put it into park ;)

Sam

lol edd.

gear linkage, is this something I can check easily?

Mark

what car is it? As it may not have gear linkages, but cables.

How close to the floor does the clutch bite

Sam

Quite close and its a Kia Sportage.

filbert

If the clutch is adjustable Id try that, if not maybe its dragging.

knighty

wtf, why did you buy one of those ?

:p

Ill have a look at it on thursday for ya ;-)

Mark

If its real close to the floor the clutch is near done, or is badly adjusted.

I think they have a hydraulic clutch so first recourse should be check fluid level. Slave cylinders are prone to bother.

what?  thaqts no fun !  youre suposed to wind him up a bit !!!

the gearbox is borked, you need a new one, and 3 new diffs for the 4wd....

and a new clutch pedal... but because they dont break much and theyre made out of titanium theres not many of them about so thatll cost more than all the rest put together !

oh, and clutches are old school, no-one uses them anymore, they use squirrel cage induction motors hooked up to invertors for smooter acceleration... a new one of these will cost mroe than a new car because they have to be assembled by robots because of the dangerous radiation inside of them..... its obv. very cheap and easy to do with new cars on a production line, but its a pita to fix because of this :(

Mark

and dont forget to top up the indicator fluid

filbert

Or it could just be the nut behind the wheel.
