Anyone else bar me and some others think this is a bad and annoying feature on facebook?
The concept is good in a way but I have already got invites (and turned down) from people from school who just knew I existed there and not actually know me or even bully me or show a distaste for me at High school etc. Everyone is all grown up now but still - go away do not really know you.

Apps are cool but the app spam is also over the top a bit for me now and the needing to sign 10 friends just to be able to use some properly etc sucks.
Facebook bar these is great though

I think its pretty good. Ive found a few people on the lists from school who I couldnt find through other means (forgot their last names, etc).

I guess it depends how many friends you have  -)

White Giant

Yeah, theres a few people on there that I went to school with, but never really spoke to.

zpyder

Had that before really. It just cuts the leg-work out of adding a friend and seeing who is on their list etc.

When i joined I had a frenzy of adding everyone I ever knew. Then purged it down to people I knew and actually talked to.

Now Im ignoring requests from the rest. Wish there was some option for a generic message to be sent to the people you ignore saying "I may have known you but you were certainly not a friend...piss off"

Not too fussed about the app spam, doesnt take much to just ignore requests.

The only thing that does annoy me is finding an app that sounds cool and filling it all out and then finding out that you have to invite others to see the result. I outright refuse to do them. I prefer having the choice of inviting friends if I think theyd like it, after testing it out myself!

Its ironic though that the few people Id actually like to catch up with from my old schools arent on facebook, or certainly not people I may know list. Doing a search for a Simon or David Jones is a bit lengthy too haha

lol why am I mentioned in the OP - I think its cool.  I just decline all the randoms from school :)

It actually does a very good job of picking people I know. I may not want to befriend them all but its suprisingly accurate

True and how many of those people you actually want to speak to.

Mongoose

so far mine is making a very good job of picking a huge number of people who happen to know my friends but who I have never met

zpyder

I was actually surprised with how one person on the list is friends with 3 of mine.

Ive never met him, but he is friends with someone from my old school, someone on my current course, and someone in dive club, yet as far as I know those 3 people have never met...

White Giant

Mine keeps suggesting the ex, how ironic.

its wierd when that sort of thing happens, Ive had it before where I go to introduce two of my friends to one another and it turns out they go way back and each didnt realise the other knew me!

Its the natural evolution of social networking - somewhat surprised its took this long to appear - does look pretty polished though.
"Within your 'purview'? Where do you think you are, some f**king regency costume drama? This is a government department, not some f**king Jane f**king Austen novel!"

Sweenster

I gave up with facebook, the thing is crap, it was good when it was simple and a good networking site.

Then it slowly turned into MySpace and more and more crap appeared.

Everytime i went on it was to say no to stuff i wasnt interested in.

It became so clogged up and more about the games and widgets than it did about anything else.

Would be nice just having links to people, let them update their information, send messages. Do i really need to know whether they want to be a vampire or a werewolf?

Kinda like LinkedIn.

I have to agree some of the aspects of facebook are great, the wall, the messages, the events.

The rest of it though... makes me want to leave that place, but I cant cause all my sodding mates use it to the extent of "oh didnt you check facebook, I set up an event for that night out"
