I finally managed to get around to watching this and I have to say I was mildly disappointed. Ive heard it hyped up by so many people I expected something that, whilst it may not be actually scary would at least be a little bit psychologically intriguing. Instead I felt they really missed the boat, what could have been a very dark, claustrophobic thriller brings in so much superfluous crap about the police and the investigation that it becomes tiresome. I really didnt care about anything other than the guys in the room, I wanted to see them try and outwit their captor. I couldnt care less about Danny Glover sliding into the role of obsessed ex-cop, and the last thing I wanted was stereotypical teen slasher style chases.

Yes strangely I feel compelled to watch the sequels, so after a mammoth sitting Ive now viewed Saw I through to Saw IV in the vague hope that they might get better. And (from my point of view) it really doesnt get any better, if anything it gets worse with each sequel, with Saw II just being an excuse for lots of people to shout at each other, Saw III being an excuse for a plot that tries to be thought provoking but fails miserably and Saw IV being just plain awful with some of the worst and anatomically inaccurate effects and prosthetics Ive ever seen on TV (were talking worse than Casualty or Holby City here folks).

I seriously doubt Ill bother with Saw V. I think getting four films into a series is giving it enough of a chance and if I dont like it by now I never will. All of the Saw films so far feel like a ridiculously low budget made-for-TV drama series rather than a cinema release movie, but even that means you cant forgive the atrocious acting, plot holes so big Jupiter could fall into them, nasty MTV style camera work and generally piss-poor script and editing. Id rate the first film as an "average" 2.5/5 they steadily decline, loosing half a point each time until Saw IV is left with a measly 1/5. I must admit I did see some promise in the "Jigsaw" character initially and the string of minions that take over the reins after his demise but even then his inane pseudo-intellectual babbling desperately trying to justify his actions just began to annoy.

So does anyone actually like the Saw series of films on here? Do you genuinely enjoy them as films, something that youd enjoy seeing at the cinema or youd actually pay for the DVD? Because its been hyped up to me by so many people that I cant help but feel Im missing something.

Saw - 2.5 / 5
Saw II - 2 / 5
Saw III - 1.5 / 5
Saw IV - 1 / 5

We have had extensive threads on each movie as they have rolled out

Oh no, not more duplication, heaven forbid!

But in terms of the question posed, my sister and I have watched them. I wouldnt say we love the films, but theyre watchable. We certainly havent found them so bad that weve decided not to watch the next one. It comes down to, when its possible for us to watch (IE, its on sky etc) theres usually not much else on thats better (In our opinion).

Thanks for stating the obvious. However as you can probably imagine searching for "Saw" brings up a rather garbled list, none of which at a glance have anything to do with the movie "Saw" and everything to do with people who, for example, "saw" something at the weekend. So Im sure you can understand why I started a new thread.  :disappointed:

All I was indicating to was that he can search and grab up some of the past threads for a read.
And as he noted there is a fair few results of which I could not be bothered to filter to give him the links to help.

Goblin

I liked the first one ok, love Cary Elwes in general, and thought there was some genuinely creepy moments in it. Went to see II at the cinema, the wince factor went up and the film quality went down. Watched III on Sky a couple of weeks back and was just bored. Will not bother with IV.

So, yeah, pretty much agree with the initial analysis, but I would say the first one deserves a bit more credit.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

skidzilla

Yup, the first one is the best of the lot, as is so often the case.

Walrusbonzo

Id nearly agree with all the other comments....

1 was quite(3/5) good, 2 was almost as good, 3 was terribly boring, not seen 4 and have no real intentions of seeing it.

El Jacko

Ive never watched any of them. Not really a film watcher.

Get the hell out of my O.R!

El Jacko

Care to translate that for the Acronym-lexyc?

Privateer

4 and 5 ruined it for me but according to IMDB saw 6 rescued the series,
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233227/
it OK and the  SAW 6 ride at Thorpe park is extreme My kids went on it.

Ill get slated for dragging this up but its relevant.
