Mate had one, and he ended up with a new set pretty much every year.  60k is way too long.  the RX8 might last that long, but the RK7 wont.  I checked with him just now, he has his done every 21k, because that was the third oilchange (every 7k), and at that they where "pretty f*cked".  i know there was a 7k in there somewhere.  

there has to be something else wrong with that car, theyre every 75 in the book and 60 by the enthusiasts that i spoke to when i looked them over 2 years ago. even every 60 was too much for me.

RX7 for £4k will be a sh*t bag imo

And skyline is nice, but remember parts and servicing can be pricy for any non uk model car. Especially if your dealing with some locally to repair it and they have to order the parts in for you.

If it dont have to be Jap, and your not fussed about money to repair, then consider an A4 (B5) 1.8T or T Sport, you can chip tune them to 200bhp for a couple of hundred quid, sleeper looks , german power, doesnt come with the sh*tty bmw reputation, or even a newer model if you can find one, although i dont know if 4k will be enough for one of those. And repairs not that bad, they are rare to find now in low mileage but if you have a few weeks and you look you will find one with history. Also i dont like the newer model i think the B5 had character.

I replaced cam belt about £250 at Audi, clutch was about the same price, i owned it over 2 years, apart from those items it flew through the mots.

Also, BMW, you can get an E36 i think, go for a 323i again a lot of power to play with and refinement /german tech, has a reputation but hell i wouldnt care its a lovely car But your moving into the gas guzzlers though.

Can also consider a Golf mk4 gti turbo , Seat Leon 1.8 t, Skoda Octavia (i think) 1.8T / RS, all the same engine as the Audi all can be chip tuned right off the bat, providing engine is solid and it has history. Bang for the buck its the easiest way to get a good bhp increase, and they can be switchable to, leave as a sleeper and no one will know any different

And ps another one is Supra SZ/RZ i think they are, lovely looking on import with the kits but again gas guzzlers, you could always get an LPG conversion

supra RZ/twin turbo would be a good choice!

ferrari/fiat dino? mate of mine has one of those - he got it for very humble money before the prices for good ones went mad

At the moment, Im thinking if the insurance is reasonable, Skyline it is.

Otherwise Ill go for a Mk2 MR2, Celica or FTO.

The top spec 200PS model does 0-60 in I think factory is 7.6 seconds iirc, which is good I think. And it looks funky. Get a manual one though

GTO, I think its to big and in the Top gear handling test they did about a million years ago they didnt like it much.

The insurance on the skyline will be far from reasonable unfortunately.

One thing I should perhaps mention is the fact youll see maybe 12-15 mpg average from a liner - or most of the others (RX-7 especially)

Yeah, Ive kinda guessed all this, though didnt expect it to be as bad as 12-15. I was thinking more like mid 20s.
