Right since Ive had this car I havent been able to get the sodding valve caps off any of the tires. Theyre stuck ridgid despite a few car savvy mates trying. Its got to the point now where the lack of air is making it feel like driving a hovercraft so as Im off work tommorrow fixing this is going to be my goal for the day.

A quick google has offered the following suggestions :

soak in wd40
Two pairs of pliers - one for valve, one for cap and turn in the opp direction
boiling hot water
heat with hairdryer

The caps are those little plastic 8 ball ones. Once off Im just going to buy some normal rubber caps so dont mind if they get wrecked.

If all else fails its off to the garage tommorrow afternoon I guess. Just thought Id see if any of you little genius people had further suggestions?

Have you checked they arent anti-theft valve caps?! Like with a tiny allen key or unlocking tool... If they arent just the normal plastic ones could be the case??

If you take it to the garage theyll say wheels off, new valves.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Jaimz - nah wish they were! Ive had a google too and the only 8 ball caps for sale arent anti theft so pretty sure theyre not.

sdp - I know they will thats why theyre real last resort.

My brother had these on his car and they did exactly the same thing. We went through 4 cans of WD40 to slacken them and gradually working them loose :/ Takes a while but you can get them off if you soak em in WD40 and let it work in. Just watch you dont get the stuff on the alloys :)

lol

we found it worked best if you soaked the thing in WD40, let it soak in and repeat 2 - 3 times and then the 4th time start removing it, just take your time as we almost tore one of the valves but stopped just in time :/

They are a nightmare, god knows what it was that was stopping it coming off as when we did get them off there were no signes of damage. You might do better with a set of mole grips to hand to in case the pliers dont work first time.

WD40 is rubbish.  You need some Plusgas or some Freeze/release.

If you grab some rubber gloves and cut the fingers off, you can surround the valve cap an fill it with anti seize stuff then try in the morning.

Chris

As soopah says, dont use WD40, get some proper penetrating oil.

Jaimz

Haha, penetrating oil.

i had this  a while ago, had to dremel them off.

Serious

Ive cut through the plastic using a stanley knife, both sides of the thing and across the top, then twisted the cap off. Ended up with 2 halves but it worked.

Heat is probably the best bet if its plastic.

Well nothing worked - tried everything (and then some). In the end bought 4 new tyres (to be fair this needed doing anyway as they were pretty f**ked) - the garage had a go just to see if they could after Id already agreed 4 new Kumhos and gave up when they snapped the first valve. Have nice normal caps now sop hopefully wont have this bother again.

The new tyres are great though - loads of grip and a lot more fun driving what now feels like a new car! :)
