I thought it was a loose connection so I stripped it down and its no different.  No amount of wiggling gets the picture back to normal.

The screen isnt cracked and it will show a proper image so I think the graphics chip is OK.
Whats your guess.

Sorry its not much help, but Im also interested in the answer, as my laptop had a similar issue where there was a vertical strip down one side of the screen at the edge, maybe 3 or 4 pixels wide, with 2 "columns" in the strip being red or blue...

My mates got a box full of D505s with varying problems.
Hes going to dig one out with a working 1400x1050 screen to swap.

Might be the video adapter or driver chips, I doubt if its the screen itself unless it has circuits built in for graphic arrangement.

I cant see it being the graphics chip itself or the memory, as it works fine through an external monitor.

OK had a closer look at your picture. I doubt if its something simple as the signal path to the screen, despite everything else being well off alignment the actual Administrator login is right in the middle. That would indicate that its either before it gets anywhere near the screen or theres some odd feedback happening between the screens logic and Windows XP. If it was simple picture misalignment the whole lot would be pushed off to the side.

Have you tried contacting the maker to see if they will give you a push in the right direction?

LCD Screen is faulty - What happens if you put pressure on the screen? especially on the corners as if you are trying to bend the screen?
if things move or vanish, then its a f**ked screen.

Not to bad as those laptops are plentyful for spares.

Just transplanted the screen from another.
Works fine, only problem is that the original screen was an wxga, the new one is just xga. 1024x748 on a 15" screen sucks.
