I hate RPGs - does that matter ?

Not really, the RPG element is minimal and feels a bit tacked on, its much more an action game.

Leon

Well the RPG (stat & inventory) side of it seemed like something added as a last minute thing but the RPG story/hours of talking/choices/team mates etc is very much 90% of the game with some combat thrown in :P

A good narrative with choices thrown in does not an RPG make in my opinion.

I always felt that in ME it was an RPG and the shooter aspect was tacked on, considering how clunky the combat was (IMHO).

Certainly though if the idea of a game is to play a role, IE, Role Playing Game, then I certainly think ME fits the category seeing as you can play more than one role in it?

I am curious to see how good the cover system is in ME2, itd be good if its like GoW or Ghost Recon, but if its only a slight improvement on ME itll suck.

Edd

apparently the cover system is vastly improved with over 200 animations for entering cover or something
also you now have to press a button to enter cover, instead of just walking into it, so now you wont be strafing someone and walk into cover

zpyder

I had the opposite issue in ME, where Id be wanting to get into cover and it wasnt happening. It certainly sounds more like a gears of war cover system which can only be a good thing :D

Admittedly in ME1 the cover wasnt needed, especially on the New Game+, you could pretty much stand in the middle of a firefight and shoot continuously without worry. Pinnacle station felt like cheating.

Edd

lol pinnacle station. on my first survive mission i didnt know what time I had to beat, so i ended up playing it for 15 minutes before letting my char die. turned out i only had to beat like 3 minutes.

was dissapointed with the rewards too! i thought that turians weapon he gave you woulda been a new weapon that came with the DLC, but it was just a crappy breaker assault rifle, and I already had the master spectre gear assault rifle which was so much better

zpyder

Best thing about pinnacle was how easy it was to basically rack up the kills with different weapons for the achievements, if youre like me and just use the assault rifle.

Edd

Heads up that ME2 has become "available" for the X360 already.............

Eagle

Does anyone know if you have to complete Mass Effect in order to be able to transfer your character to ME2 - or just have played it?

zpyder

I was under the impression that for the perks you had to have completed it, IE, I am a bit miffed that I have got to 59, and that if I want to migrate the char across for the lvl 60 character, I cant just play up to when I hit 60, I have to finish it. Combined with that I would also need to make all the choices I want my char to have for the back story, and I CBA, not yet anyway.

Eagle

Ive read that you can select a few choices on backstory when starting ME2 anyway...

Yeah but thatll feel like cheating. I might use it on a 2nd playthrough if I wanted my character to be the biggest dick in the galaxy, but otherwise Id rather it be the same character all the way through :D

Your on the right lines mate. Depending on what you did the new game will reflect how people interact with you and some of the story will flow based on that. If you Saved the council for example people will be nice to you about that. You saved everyone but the council died and now mostly humans are on there - Some Races will be a bit more negative.
With your level and what you obtained and Did will be taken into account and you get some skill perks added based on that.
If you got the nice bits of kit as well you will get nicer rewards a little earlier on to reflect that.

You are basically starting from scratch again, you can change your look and class but you get perks as you say depending on what you did in the last game.

Can not wait for this. Out Monday (today) for you guys, out Wednesday here I think, delay in shipping or something.
