Well, after finally getting all the parts to rebuild the engine in the Excel SE (You wouldnt believe how difficult it is to get parts for them!) we have finally started to reassemble the 2.2 HC. We were looking at a V8 from a toyota/lexus of some sort, but decided the original would go back in.

Took it apart, as I had to change the clutch, then decided it would be a good idea to refurb the engine completely. There were a few slight oil leaks, but the lotus 912 engine is renowned for oil leaks.

Its being built STRONG so there is a basis for future mods, for the time being it will go back together with the twin dellorto DHLA carbs. Ill eventually convert it to FI with throttle bodies, probably use a VEMS ecu, or a spare Emerald.

The hardest bits to get were the flywheel (As the starter ring gear is integral and was shafted), and the water pump is a ridiculous price, and famously unreliable, so it will be converted to electric.

Few more pics this morning, went and did a bit too much without imaging!

I do love seeing these pics of your hard graft getting these cars up to spec, even if the details breeze over me like a learjet.
