Just found out were getting some Blackberries and Ive got to roll out an enterprise server intergrated with our exchange. Be nice to have a Blackberry rather than this HTC piece of crap - plus getting some experience with BES will look nice on the old CV!

Anyone had any experiences with this?
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

shofty

yeah, its all pretty simple.

EX Admin account, install bes with it against sql express, add the users into BES, activate the phone, jobs a good un.

Pete

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

I like BES, its a nice piece of kit.  It also pretty much shuts the morons up who think they should get iPhones for business use.

Leon

Only had basic exposure to BES but setting up users and phones is damn easy

Im one of those morons - I got a 3gs work phone and its ok for SMBs with exchange. Shame the battery only lasts 5 minutes.

Battery life is a minor issue.  Remote wipe is the major one.  You cant do it on the iPhone without paying extra for mobileme.  If youre chucking handsets to a few hundred people (or in some cases Ive had thousands over multiple BES servers) then you are actually going to pay more each year for the facility than you would just buying a BES and paying for it once.  Also with some companies if youre buying enough contracts they bung you free handsets every 2 years anyway, as long as its not an iPhone.

Pete

:stupid: I really like BES but but if you only got a coupe of users who want basic email on their phone theres nowt wrong with iphone.

Which only works on Windows Mobile phones running WinMobile 5.5 or above IIRC.  Doesnt work on fully iPhones as I understand it.  Will remove the exchange data, but the contacts, calendars and the rest dont get wiped.

You must never have cause to properly search email

Dont all your folders also appear open in the inbox view

Mark

The MAJOR issue with not using blackberry for email is the security. It is the only device approved for government use, and has FIPS-140 compliance.

Nothing even close to the remote wipe available on blackberry. No device is within 3 years of them for corporate use.

You can restrict everything on it from the BES server - you can even log all text messages. The other devices are fine for home use, but worthless in corp environments.

This.  Im being sent directly to RIM for specialist training at the beginning of June, and Ive been studying up properly rather than just working from the notes and setups Ive done over the years.  Some of the facilities available make them more secure than Ive yet seen.

removes everything my learned friend. if you wipe the phone, the user cant get onto it until you turn the wipe off. the phone is a brick. you should try it sometime.
