Ive been spending the last couple of hours trying to workout where to go on our summer holidays. Weve gotten into driving around Europe since we did it for our honeymoon last year.

The only things that have been booked so far is:
The Ferry Dover-Calais 24thJuly

The Destination - A campsite in Porec, Croatia 29thJuly-5th August

The Ferry Home - 8th August.

So I need to decide on 5nights worth of stops on the way there, and 3nights worth of stops on the way back.

That is basically the way there sorted, unless anyone thinks somewhere I have choosen is bad.

I have no idea on the way home though...

Im thinking possibly:
Somewhere Italian Lakes, Luxembourg and somewhere in Switzerland or Germany but I feel like Im over doing Germany.

Ive chosen that route because I hate Toll Roads (in other words driving in France, Italy isnt cheap to drive in either)

why not drive down italy & get a ferry to greece & drive up through the old yugoslavia countries?

Thats a nice idea but would add to much time to this particular journey, might do it on the next one though.

Saying that google maps keeps forcing me up and down the entire length of italy rather than driving through any former Yugoslavia countries which leads me to believe the roads must be terrible.

I would go down though Innsbruck and when in Italy turn left through the Dolomites to Cortina and south from there.
The Dolomite scenery is very different from the typical Alpen sawtoothing, very impressive. Youll be glad to know this isnt a toll road at all

That looks awesome, but Ill have to go the opposite way round, from Lake Garda through the Stelvio Pass and then on upto Innsbruck.

I take it all the roads are decent around there and Im not going to fall off any cliff etc

Youll have seen the Top Gear where they pick the Stelvio as their best driving road. Youll need to check its open in August as the snow keeps it shut for much of the year.
