Just read an interesting article and of course accurate but never thought of it before.
Basically seen all those American movies or documentaries about declaration of independence and before that time too and the lead up to it?
All Americans with their strong American accents? (with them even going to the point to make them strong)

All wrong, Americans had English/British accents, they were English/British and under English/British Rule for some time so of course they had that tone in their voice. It was not till independence and When the Irish came in their floods that things started to develop. Gangs of New York movie - think that tone and it was the lower end of the poverty scale where it developed from.

The only interesting thing that the article pointed out was that Todays American Accent over that of early on and the British Accent now to early on are more divergent then you would think today.

I guess this all makes sense and obvious but I just never thought of it till it was pointed out.

Mostly the Americans were either British migrants or their immediate descendants.

Which reminds me, the Americans didnt really win the war, it took the aid of the French to achieve that, along with their Spanish and Dutch allies.
