Were in 2010, Im interested to see what you think the best films or film series of the last decade are. Its harder than you think to come up with a list!

The Departed
Wall-E
Lord Of The Rings
The Dark Knight
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Gladiator
The Bourne Supremacy/Ultimatum
Sin City
Pirates of the Carribean
Casino Royale

Thats mine, and its vastly subject to change as its so hard whittling down a list of what is not only great to watch but that I could watch again and again. and theres some highly regarded films that I should see, but just havnt seen properly yet e.g. Memento, Mulholland Drive, Almost Famous.

Im intersted to see what you guys put in your 10 films.

Bacon

As discussed on msn, this is going to be very hard for me, but if you want ill make a list of 100 in no particular order :P

how can we have best films of the decade so far?
weve just left a decade & your list is from the last decade

Quixoticish

I can give you twenty-five, but thats as narrow as I can limit it.

Children of Men - Incredible dystopian science fiction film.
Primer - Delightfully intelligent film done on an extremely low budget.
Valhalla Rising - Emotive and beautiful cinematography that creates a sublime atmosphere.
Shortbus - Often remembered for the graphic sex, but even if that were removed from the film youd still have a delightful, witty and sensuous film.
Master and Commander : The Far Side of the World[/i] - Brilliant adaptation of one of the greatest series of books in existence in my opinion.
V for Vendetta - Contemporising 1984, and containing a message that is more relevant now than ever before.
A Scanner Darkly - Filmed in such a stunning way and packed with incredible performances. One of the best Philip K Dick adaptations for the big screen along with Blade Runner.
Star Trek - Top notch reboot of one of the most successful and also the most socially significant and historically important franchises of all time.
Mullholland Drive - Cinema for the sake of cinema and exploring the medium in such an inventive way. Lynch doing exactly what he does best.
Naqoyqatsi - The tail end of the "qatsi" trilogy just fits in to the last decade. Words cannot describe the sublime grandeur.
Encounters at the end of the World - Stunning documentary from Werner Herzog, incredibly atmospheric and heart-warming.
Sin City - Brilliant and fun comic book adaptation full of nods to classic film noir. Stunning to behold.
Transformers - Allow me my moment of fanboy glee and let me enjoy the silliness.
Iron Man - As above, the decade saw two of my favourite childhood franchises make it to the big screen, and I loved every minute of it.
Morvern Callar - Eerie, surreal film adaptation of an excellent novella. I cant sing its praises enough.
Batman Begins - Once again another beloved character makes it to the big screen. So beautifully gothic and moody. Wonderful, exactly how Batman should be.
Moon - A return to classic science fiction showing Hollywood how touching the genre can be.
Watchmen - A future classic that isnt appreciated very much now but will be in the future.
Beowulf and Grendel - Stunning cinematography, a real adventure that knocks the Lord of the Rings for six in my opinion.
Sherlock Holmes - Glorious re-imaging of a fantastic franchise. Drags things back to the source material away from our stereotypical image of the characters.
The Last Samurai - Despite Tom Cruises bad reputation I think this is a sterling performance, although Ken Watanabe steals the show. Beautiful.
Lost in Translation - Has an almost literary quality to it, Tokyo becomes the star of the show with our two main charachters becoming confused flâneurs in an unfamiliar environment.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - What can I say? Incredible performances from a variety of actors and such a polite, enjoyable story.
District 9 - The big book of allegory for dummies. A scathing exploration of apartheid using science fiction as the vessel for social and moral messages that it was intended to be.
Casino Royale - Bond going back to his roots, a fantastic re-invention of a franchise that was becoming more and more farcical.

Equilibrium deserves a mention. Shame Dark City was 1998, much prefer it to the matrix.

I meant so far in that theres still 6 months of this year left, not that I expect that to make much difference since youre right, that is this decade not last decade. I blame tired late night posting :)

As a side, excellent write up Chris H, I could easily drop some of those films into my list, notably Children of Men, Moon and V for Vendetta.

Hang on, are you calling the decade 2000-2009 or 2001-2010?

I was under the impression it was the former rather than the latter? As in the "nineteen twenties" were 1920-1929, 1930 was the start of the nineteen thirties surely?

Tek_Ed

Hostel/Saw - the most shocking cinema films I ever saw (get it)
28 Days Later - British cinema at its best
Gladiator - Awesome balance of action and drama
Dog Soldiers - Love the british-ness of this film. Good gore to boot
Avatar - virtual world loveliness
Sin City - I love this film.. Not just because of J Alba on a pole
Anchorman - lmao at this film
Hot Fuzz - Love simon Pegg
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - what a cast, what a film
Final Destination - What an idea for a film.. exclude sequels!

I really didnt like V for Vendetta

Agree with Clockd on The Departed tho. I really loved that film, especially Mark Wahlberg

I didnt even get to the end of the film. I certainly wouldnt put it top ten, but hell, maybe i was missing something or maybe the end was freaking awesome!

Sam

V for Vendetta was awesome.
No one mentioned The Prestige ?
Batman reboot.
Primer
Moon
Milwaukee, Minnesota

Tek_Ed

What about Sex and the City?

Women watch the most rubbish films.. Maybe we should start another thread.. worst films of the decade.. Bridget Jones, Love Actually, etc. etc.

There is no spoon!

Quote from: Chris HBeowulf and Grendel

You should definitely read Grendel

My list -

WALL-E
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus
Wallace & Gromit: Were-Rabbit
Castaway

I like proper action movies and sci-fi mostly, its weird that I cant think of any from the past ten years that stood out in the same way stuff like Alien and Commando stand out.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.
