Looking for a reasonably price system to use for internet/everyday use and media streaming, so capability to install a blu ray drive would be great.

Would like something small, what do you recommend?

SFF, to replace my ATX desktop, expansion for future improvement i.e. PCI-E 16x 2.0 slot for upgraded gpu at a later date perhaps, and 1156 CPU support (thats i5 750)

I like the look of

Silverstone SG07B (comes with 600w 80+ PSU with shortened cables) or similar
Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 or similar
Samsung Slot Loading DVDRW Laptop Drive

Combined with my

Intel i5 750
Corsair DHX 4GB DDR
4850 512MB (for the time being)

Dont know which Cooler to go for tbh, doubt ill bother Overclocking it much (if at all).

Case wise, Id highly recommend the Antec Fusion Black, its deadly quiet and runs really cool, and also has the IR receiver for MCE remote and allows you to turn it on from the remote as well!

If you just want internet and HD movies, get the Acer Revo, have one of those in my bedroom and mounts to the VESA mount on the back of the TV, you would then need to add an external Bluray drive, although looks like you are using other components you already have.

Sort of changed my mind or split decision

One option is to get an Atom based dual core system

Two is to use my current components with a new case and motherboard, maybe follow the new Mini ITX route, the gigabyte board is great

Seeing you already have a chip to use in it I would be tempted to go down the HTPC route, ...that is if you have the space for it.

I also have an  Antec Fusion and agree it is a great case and will accept a full sized graphics card, I had a 8800 GTX in mine for a few weeks  while I was waiting on a RMA for the mobo from my gaming comp, 8800 are beasts when it comes to throwing out heat and it kept the card cool enough even at medium fan speed  to do a fair bit of gaming, without the onboard fan ramping up to the noisy speeds.    Also gives you more options in the long run if you maybe want to add another HD, decent sound card or a DVB card...etc.

I have had a HTPC for a few years now and can't see anything thing now or in the near future replacing it, SFF or all in one solutions just don't have all the features or versatility of a HTPC, plus I do like the fact it is something I can fiddle with easily both hardware and software wise, the inner geek in me is still amused by the fact I can watch live TV streaming from my HTPC to my Ipod while in the garden or bath :P

Couple of questions, can you recommend a few cases so i know what to look for? And, would it be possible to put my monitor on top of the HTPC to save space (like a desktop), or would it face overheating issues? Thanks

While I have never tried it because mine lives under my telly I'm pretty sure the Antec would take a decent sized monitor easily I wouldn't have any qualms about putting my 24" Dell on it for example. I don't have any experience of other HTPC cases tbh but i do remember when I was researching them that Silverstone's got very good reviews but at a high price! ...Im still more than happy with my "budget" Antec over 2 year's later tbh

Heat wouldn't be a issue at stock speeds, my Xbox is on top of mine and running both at the same time causes no issues,  I currently have a wolfdale E8400 in mine, which I run at stock speed and under-volted a bit with the stock cooler and it rarely goes above 900 rpm so have had no need to get a better cooler tbh

Sounds promising and is one route i could consider.

Seeing your down south you might get some "interesting" stuff if you already have a dish on the side of your house with a 25 quid DVB-S card ...or at the very least freesat :P

Dish, you know, like you find by the sink? Use some blue tack or epoxy and fasten it to the wall outside...  -)
