Yeah I've done a couple actually - not bad to be fair but I got frustrated trying to keep them updated without bricking them. Not to mention getting all the drivers working...

choose your hardware wisely and i dont think its that bad anymore. i got lucky with the 1.6.6 this week, just had to be careful when i rebooted it. actually, not sure if i have yet.hmmm

I would go for an SSD for OS , they really do make a huge noticeable difference , could always move this to new build if/when you do it.
Maybe upgrade GFX card , a 5770 is a good card , can be had for under £100 .

Yeah - think what I'll do is maybe buy a few components that I can keep - blu ray drive, SSD, GFX card - then in a few months I can get the ram m/b and CPU :)

Think the 460 is still the best bang for buck at the moment (£130ish) and its worth getting the 1GB over the 768MB.

I got the Samsung 12x Retail as it was about £3 more than the 4x OEM drives I could find - might of been because I grabbed it off scans today only?

Haven't been following enough of the SSD news to give any opinion on whats good or not ;)

well yes I've read about the stuff being shown off at CES but as this (depressingly) isnt a lets bankrupt rivkid thread think we need the lower end of SSD ;)
