What is a good cheap solution for sound proofing your car that maybe not care specific?

Say something you could go to a big DIY store that will do the job that is half the price etc?

Any ideas ?

However you do it, you still got to rip the whole of the interior out, its rather pointless unless your spending big money on car audio.

Yes, you could put in some of that spray exapandable foam (absolute cheapest/easiest solution) but then it will be a nightmare if you want to get in and change components, etc. Is there no sound proofing materials in your door already?

Helpful info mate, helpful please :P
I have guides for my care and the key areas that make a huge difference which does not involve this. I just need the material. The boot lid how it is and where the speakers in it sit and the vibration that creates in it for example is very easy to do once you have the material.

Doors - just plastic, the bracket will come out and some sort of soundproofing there will help the vibration and the boot area too as well as the centre console which is easy to get too and parts of the floor - also easy to get too.
In the FTO these areas make a massive difference. I just looking for material that will do the job and not cost the earth.

Cheap foam is the best (think seat cushion foam). You want something with lots of air pockets/surface area for absorption/diffusion of noise.

lead & cheap are two words that dont go together

DEViANCE

its the self adeshive bitumin flashing that is used not lead, and it is to stop the panels ringing and to make them sound more solid it doesnt have any sound absorbing qualities.
A couple of strips of it on each big panel (inside door skin, rear quater panels etc) makes a big difference to how solid the car sounds/feels.

The bulk stuff that you can buy on ebay is a good budgetr option. Nothing beats the proper Dynamat stuff but that is so expensive.

Also any general purpose closed cell foam will be ok, dont use anthing that absorbs water that as doors, wings and quater panels are used as water drains from the roof and arnt weather tight.
