My poor Dell 2005FPW has died made in Nov 2005 it had a good run.

I pulled my desk apart, wiped everything down and recabled.

When i turned the power back on the dell splash appeared, i fired my pc up the screen went into power save as it was on VGA, i pressed the button to switch to DVI and *POP* no power LED or anything, a sniff of the air confirmed my fear that it has indeed gone to a better place.

So, 24" LED? suggestions?? I dont want to break the bank either.

Another Dell is really a must isn't it? Do they have any deals going currently? If you go along the small business route is it cheaper?
They are always doing discount codes so google see if there are any currently around to use on the dell site as well.

Really? no point in considering other brands?

If it were half the cost I might consider it, I cant afford 400+ quid at the mo, id consider a smaller panel size if its as good quality for less cost.

I'm only going to recommend Dell and PCBuyIT, best company for monitors ever! You cannot fault their extended warranties they do that are zero defect warranties.

This is mine, only 1680x1050 but i bought it a while ago, but it uses an E-IPS panel and they sell well 2nd hand still, i've seen them sell used for £175

Thats not bad, i could easily live without the extra 2" since my current screen is only 20"

IPS panels really are the way to go. I can't stand looking at other screens now because they all suffer one problem or another. The HP-LP2475w is almost on par with the Dell in 24" size but is still almost touching the £400 mark. Dell really do rule the roost in the high end panel segment, if you can't spring for top end there probably are good alternatives though. I've read good things about some Samsung panels but couldn't tell you which ones.

TBH IPS is a new one on me! never heard of it till today heh.

That 22" seems to be a good price and has good reviews, I may just end up getting one

Take note, mine failed in the first 6 months and was swapped out in something like 17 hours from the time i logged the call with Dell (you call them direct, each box label on the Dell package is registered with Dell), as far as i can tell PCBuyIt buy sh*t loads of stock from Dell and arrange those warranties as part of their own package, you don't get the same service anywhere else.

Its like anything if its going to fail its within the first few months. The monitor is good, got good reviews, but most importantly to me was the Zero Defect warranty and the excellent service you get, the monitor is a bonus.

Yeah im pretty sure this 20" tft was replaced under warranty fairly early in its life.

isnt there a consumer rights/sale of goods act that covers you upto 5 years?

Aww sad to hear that mate, my 2005FPW is still going strong and I think when it does die I'm going to have to replace it with another UltraSharp but least they don't cost £650 anymore
