My firefox install had been getting a bit funny, stuttering and (not responding) quite regularly so I took that as a chance to try the latest version of chrome.

I've had it installed for 1day and firefox has been uninstalled and reinstalled as chrome is absolutly crap. It is slow and laggy, the import data from firefox doesnt work properly, the bookmarks system is terrible, the popup blocker is a nazi and it has problems with so many simple sites it is stupid. It wouldnt allow me to set my location on the bbc website and it wouldnt print my paypal/royalmail postage labels.

Firefox is back and running as good as ever.

The new FF beta 6 is pretty good actually, even with the incredible tab abuse I give it. It takes a lot for me to say that about FF these days too!

Multiple tabs is the key to browsers and none have that quite right yet.

Each tab has its history and what it currently has open tied to it using resources. Lots of tabs and all that = high resources.
Chrome goes about making each tab basically a new browser so if that dies the whole browser does not and for each tab it means it is pretty quick.
Downside with Chrome if your a high tab user is that it KILLS your machine. I chug in some games if screen 2 has chrome and 5+ tabs open but is fine with 10+tabs in firefox.

Firefox still has memory issues with that though and when you kill tabs it does not free memory up very well yet. Chrome when you kill tabs clears up resources VERY well but is much more of a hog with the same amount of tabs as firefox.
Chrome's javascript engine is faster but more flaky then Firefox's.
I think webkit is slightly better then Geko as well.

Firefox's java and flash are both still flakey IMO, it tries its best to avoid slowdowns/recover gracefully but overall it needs a lot of work still, thankfully the next versions are planned to be tightening up and not cramming in as much new crap as possible like previous versions. It still uses 50% of my CPU and about 70% of my memory on average.

Chrome is great in Linux these days, I use it when I come across flash-heavy sites (ugh) that FF's plugin architecture seems to choke/freeze on.

Yes chrome works well in Ubuntu but I use FF unless once in while  a flash site that FF has issues with when I use chrome.

I actually use Firefox and Chrome but for different things.  Firefox is my main day-to-day browsing at home and work but I use chrome for the odd website that doesn't work very well in firefox.  For some reason I can't login to quidco in firefox but it works fine in chrome, however that actually suits me fine as I'll spend ages trying to find what I want to buy before going through quidco so using a seperate browser reduces the risk of quidco picking up cookies and not tracking properly.

But the main thing chrome's good for is anything that google do, google maps is 10 times quicker in chrome than firefox, I do quite like chrome's lack of buttons & toolbars etc for browsing some sites.

I don't think there's one browser that's "The Best" but they each have their advantages.
