It was easily been possible to create an off road vehicle that could both propel itself across snow and float on water with minimal chance of sinking. This resulted in American, Russian and Dutch versions. Other variants still emerge occasionally.

The main problems seem to be the maximum speed, efficiency and manoeuvring on loose surfaces like sand or hard surfaces like stone or roads. Wheels and tracks proved preferable in most cases.
