Weird Question - English Lit

Weird one - English Lit
A weird question, but can anyone help please?

My Czech friend is studying English literature, and wants to research in to what she calls English Myths.

The way she described it was small sayings like "life is like a box of chocolates", and "the American dream", as these both have a meaning for them, but originate from America.

Have any originated from England? If so could you share them and what their meaning is?

Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs? I'm pretty sure that's English. There's loads of them about it's remembering them that's the hard part.

lots of proverbs.. guess two I can think of that are similar would be
you never know whats around the corner

American dream is more about owning your own home,
So I guess it would be an Englishmans home is his castle.
