Found this not so little guy yesterday, not something I've seen before.

Image not displaying for me?

Smallus whitelinicus ;)

On a serious note, just as a gamble/bet, for the time of the year and the fact it's "small", I'm thinking ladybird larvae... :D

Tried to do it on my phone and failed. Should show up shortly once my dropbox updates.

Where abouts are you/it in the country?

Looks like it's a Sphinx moth caterpillar, but I'm not convinced it's Sphinx ligustri (maybe, colours could just be faded on it if it was old etc)...Any idea what plants were around, I think Sphinx ligustri feeds on Privet...

London, he was in the middle of a pavement so I moved him onto the side. The picture is a bit washed out, he was quite vivid.

There is what I think is a privit hedge not too far away from there.

To be sure you could always put it up on www.ispot.org.uk and someone could confirm the ID or offer an alternative. It's deffo a hawkmoth/sphinx moth, but the head doesn't seem quite right. Looking at pictures it's also similar to the Tobacco hawkmoth, but I can't see the spots on your photo which are present on that.

I also should admit at this point I don't know much about lepidoptera, I'm just using my identification keys and websites to help out!
