Sad day. Great man - will be hugely missed.

Rest in peace Gamesmaster.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Mongoose

indeed, came as a bit of a shock I must admit. I shall think of him whenever I look at the moon.

Bacon

Sad news, loved watching gamesmaster back in the day....

RIP

Clock'd 0Ne

Just heard this on the radio and felt absolutely gutted. The Sky at Night is/was the longest-running programme with the same presenter in television history - over 700 episodes over 55 years - he'd still be doing it today if he could. That and of course he plays the Xylophone and was Gamesmaster :yarr:

RIP.

Sad news, R.I.P Sir Patrick Moore.  :(

Serious

Without him the amateur astronomers of Britain would almost inevitably have been a far smaller group. He managed what few would even think possible. I watched the earliest broadcasts and realised how much bigger the universe was than just our back yard solar system. The programmes provided a host of professional astronomers with their first knowledge and put them on to their careers.

I remember a story I hear about him...

a few years ago, he was on a train and some people a few seats down (hadn't seen him) started talking about how "the moon landing was faked"

so he got up and shouted at them (apparently he helped nasa to plan it)... stood there shouting facts/figures/etc.. for 10min straight with no-one else on the train saying a word

then he stopped... stood there looking at them for a sec (everyone around gobsmacked and no-one saying anything)

then he went and sat in another carriage

:-)
