S2, Iphone 4, HTC One X, Motorola RAZR i, seemed to narrow it down to these four all being the same simfree/pay-g/ebay price, the HTC is slightly more.

Not interested in contract as i use Giffgaff but might switch to a VM 1200 mins sim soon.

Can't really decide on which phone out of these, and if there are other contenders.

I'm upgrading from a Tocco  I think its time i moved into the future.

All the phones above are £180-240 ish, it would also be good if someone could recommend a lower price Android phone, i was looking the Galaxy Ace 2 or Ace Plus.

Nexus 4 is best option at the mo.

Limited stocks, contract in most places and £400+ where you can get it, so thats a no.

They're not as bad as most people make out (she says already having hers replaced once), but Nige has the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and he seems happy!

If you want a massive awesome screen at the expense of battery then the One X
If you want easy of use and like to pay for apps, iPhone

S2 is a whole iteration behind the OneX so for me there's no upside (maybe price?)

Dont know enough about the RAZR to comment.

The HTC 8S seems a well spec'd mid range phone. Looks really good imo and can be had for less than £180

Don't need to have owned one when lots of friends and family do. Plenty of hands on time. The os is stale. It's practically the same as when it first came out, no attempts to actually try and keep up with the competition.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Many, many many consumers don't want to have to re-learn how to use their phone every 18-24 months when they upgrade and are faced with a totally different navigation system. If it works, don't break it.

Pretty sure when I had my iPhone, I had widgets that told me number of emails, weather conditions, battery life. It wasn't jailbroken either.

I'd agree there. But then again, when I've compared the app marketplaces side by side for some of the niche apps I'm interested in, the iOS apps are usually at a much higher standard, and in some cases the apps don't exist at all on android. I'm happy to pay more for an app if it works, and works well.

And before you say I must be an apple fanboy, I'm not. I currently have a Galaxy S3. I had an iPhone 4 before that, and an HTC desire before that. All I'm doing is balancing the argument from an unbiased point of view. I can see the merits in both devices, and just wish people wouldn't be so polar when it came to mobiles. It's like Marmite, love it or hate it, there doesn't seem to be any inbetween :/

In what way? I made an educated decision and bought a modern smartphone not some ancient piece of junk with all the features of wm2002.

Mines not a biased view point. I fully accept that Google software is mostly buggy betas but they openly admit to it. The companies ethos isn't to provide highly polished software that works out of the box.  That (was) apple's job. Their phones are too expensive for their feature set.
